Sorry, I'm sure you've addressed this before, but is your notables just players you like/find intriguing, or is it also players who's ranking you find surprising/interesting?

It is the players I am keeping an eye on. I make note of them so other posters can look into them if they want and get a feel for what our options are in any given round. If you ask me about any specific ranking I can give you my feedback on which players I find ranked in an interesting spot. Another reason why I like to make note of my players of intrigue is I like to get an idea of what range they could end up getting drafted in. If one ranking system has a player ranked in the 1st round and then multiple other have that same player ranked in the 3rd round I can either get an idea of how difficult it will be to predict where that player may go and I can get a bit of a read on which ranking systems overvalue or undervalue certain players. With Button I think he is subject to a recency bias; he has a lot of players ranked way higher than most other scouting services and it seems a bit biased based on recent performance such as the WJHC.

He's no Joe Flacco, but man is he making that 67s guy look stupid! Not wavering, he's definitely my #2 after Laf, Button can shove it!
It's crazy how he discounted Byfield like that. Byfield is the clear 2.

Some are debatable and I feel like I'm missing a few obvious guys, but here's how I'd break them down as of now:

Tier 1

Lafreniere

Tier 2
Byfield

Tier 3
Stutzle
Raymond

Tier 4
Rossi
Perfetti
Holtz
Drysdale
Lundell

Tier 5
Gunler
Halloway
Sanderson
Askarov

Tier 6
Mercer
Sourdif
Zary
Lapierre
Barron
Guhle

If we get 2 picks in the top 9, we're getting two very good players.

Lafreniere and Byfield belong in the same tier.

Byfield's numbers are actually better than Lafreniere's at the same age (17YR old season). He has 63P/33GP (1.91 PPG), while Lafreniere had 105P/61GP (1.72 PPG). Lafreniere had a much better 16YR old season, however.

I think he's getting underrated the same way Seguin was in the Taylor vs. Tyler debate. Hard for people to see past the better production of the late-birthday (Hall/Lafreniere) in their draft year and their success at the World Juniors.

If Byfield were to return to the OHL next season in his 18YR old year would he produce as well as Lafreniere? Would he dominate the WJC like him? Hard to say, but that would be comparing apples-to-apples.

One question I have is the difference in hockey IQ. I get making the comparison in age and production and Byfield does have moments where he dominates in the same way that Lafreniere does. Byfield has great puck handling and dangles, he both shoots the puck and passes well and it certainly presents a lot of questions of what he will be like in a year from now. Both Lafreniere and Byfield have high hockey IQ but at this point I do see a gap between them and I wonder if a year of development will close that gap. How do you feel their hockey iq's compare and do you think there will be a meaningful gap in the long run?

From what I have heard and understand that even as 17 year old Lafreniere was more mature, I think he has a higher hockey IQ too but Byfields physical tools close the gap. I think any team should take Laf number 1 because there is less risk but anyone that ends up with Byfield, Stutzle or Raymond as a consolation prize has made out like a bandit.

Agree with all of this. Its a great draft to be bad, really hope the sens end up with one of the top 4 selections. 4 potential superstars I believe.

With the 3 2nd rd picks Ottawa has & the potential to add a few more picks in the two first rds, they should really target Braden Schneider RD & Ryan O'Rouke LD with those picks even if they need to move up a little to get them.

Not a lot of RWers over 6' in the first 3 rds of the 2020 draft … what's up with that? Maybe a few will grow by the draft a couple of inches. Tyson Forester plays centre but shoots right, I guess that's another way to get a bigger RWer is to draft a big right shot centre & he is ranked in the 2nd rd.

I liked Rossi and Zary in the prospects game; Perfetti had some nice shifts. I watched mainly the 1st 2 periods.
Laf's goal was offside by one of the players being pushed offside.. made a great shot.
