I've loved Freeman since he broke into the bigs, but I still never expected him to put up MVP type numbers even in a short season. But short season or not, Freddie has been raking for years now, well deserved.

Who deserved it over Morneau in 2006?

He was great that year and Twins shocked everyone with how strong they were

It could be argued him winning MVP was even more impressive since Mauer and Santana received MVP votes as well taking away some potential votes from JM

Quite a lot of players, actually, including his teammates Johan Santana and Joe Mauer. Morneau would not have been close to my ballot.

Exactly right on Mauer and Santana being 100% more deserving. There were probably 4-5 other guys who actually had better years than Morneau but didn’t get the consideration because their teams didn’t make the playoffs. Ortiz, Grady Sizemore, Hafner, you could all easily argue had better seasons. If you’re not going to give it someone who’s team didnt make the playoffs then Jeter and Carlos Guillen would have been better choices

Wow I watched baseball the whole year, played a little fantasy, and I literally have never heard of this Devin Williams guy haha. Weird.

I would say Dye was most deserving of non playoff team players

146 games
170 hits
.315 BA
1.006 OPS
.385 OBP
.622 SLG
27 doubles
3 triples
44 HR's
120 RBI's
7 SB

He probably wouldn't have been my first choice but definitely in the conversation. No one really had a 'standout' year in 2006 except for probably Santana as a pitcher. Thome had a very good year. Same with Manny but he missed a lot of games. Vernon Wells was also all around really great. Just saying that Morneau getting the MVP is maybe one of the weaker selections in the past 20 years.

I'd argue Ortiz edged him out that year

151 games
160 hits
.287 BA
1.049 OPS
.413 OPB
.636 SLG
29 doubles
2 triples
54 HR
137 RBI
5.8 WAR (vs Dye's 4.6 WAR)

At 31, is Freeman the oldest first-time MVP?

EDIT: A quick research. Not sure if he was the oldest but Jimmy Rollins did win in 2007 at 32.

EDIT again: Rollins was actually 29 in 2007. For some reason I thought he was born in 1974.
