Interesting fact about Jeff Kent is that he finished top 10 in MVP voting 4 times, but wasn't named to the all-star team in 3 of those seasons

He was only a 5x all-star in his career

Kent was a good hitter with a 123 OPS+, but because of his defense (-0.1 dWAR) and base running (94 SBs), all these middle infielders have higher WARs.

Alot of these writers should not be allowed to vote on this IMO

The bias and nonsense they use to try and block people from HOF shows they dont have integrity to carry out duty

Removing worthy players because it's "Jeter's year" is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Jeter was great and for sure is an HoFer but is somehow still the most overrated player ever. Why does he need to go in by himself? So so stupid.

Nobody should go in by themselves. Vote for the worthy candidates and whoever gets elected gets elected.

Jeter-only ballots are possibly dumber than blank ones.

Not as dumb as Jack Morris-only ballots though, or ballots that included Jack Morris but excluded Greg Maddux because Maddux played during the "steroid era" (yes, clearly Greg Maddux was both using steroids and they were helping his performance relative to the hitters he was facing, tell me more...).

This is so true. Jeter played 2747 games at shortstop yet is not in the top 1000 in dWAR. Players who played a fraction of that number of games such as the ones listed above made the list. Travis Shaw has only played 5 seasons and he made the list.

Just to add the comparison to prove the point.

Jeter: 3,465 hits .311/.377/.440
Biggio: 3,060 hits .281/.363/.433

Jeter: .817 ops, 115 ops+
Biggio: .796 ops, 112 ops+

Jeter: -8.3 dWAR, 96.3 oWAR, 72.5 WAR
Biggio: -2.9 dWAR, 76.2 oWAR, 65.5 WAR

Jeter: 254 errors, .976 fld%, 3.90 range factor/gm (league average = 4.46)
Biggio: 201 errors, .985 fld%, 4.61 range factor/gm (league average = 4.91)

Jeter: -243 runs from fielding, 353 runs from batting, 756 runs better than replacement
Biggio: -100 runs from fielding, 257 runs from batting, 687 runs better than replacement

Jeter: .511% w/l on average team
Biggio: .511% w/l on average team

Jeter: 31.0 wins added above average player
Biggio: 29.1 wins added above average player

Jeter's defense drastically declined at the turn of the century and he was living on both reputation and "ZOMG JUMP THROWS!" and other things that were extremely overblown like when Giambi didn't slide or when he caught a ball and ran 15 feet and jumped into the stands. Some of those jump throws wouldn't be necessary if he had better range.

All Star games are popularity contest and Jeff Kent wasn't really a popular dude.

At least thats my guess.

SB Nation has a video in regards to this, check out Barry Bonds vs Jeff Kent.

They detail all of Barry Bonds well documented stuff while shining a light on Kent's, he had several issues and I'm surprised the media did not catch on to it.

Jeter is absolutely a hall of famer (as much as it pains a Redsox fan to say), but some of these voters are acting like he is one of the greatest players of all time, it's ridiculous. He was a good hitting, poor fielding SS who happened to play on a lot of loaded teams in the biggest media market in the league.

Only two 3rd basemen have more gold gloves than Rolen and they are both in the HOF. IMO Scott Rolen is the best defensive 3rd Basemen all-time. Yes even better than Schmidt and Robinson. Mike Schmidt himself said Rolen was better than him defensively. If not for the injuries I think Rolen's gold glove count would be well into double digits. Oh and he could hit, for average, for power, he could run bases(Very high IQ baserunner). And I loved how he always hustled(unfortunetely it lead to horrible injuries). We always hear about 5 tool players in baseball and in his prime he was one of them.

There aren't many third basemen in the HoF, either.

Jeter was quite clearly better than Biggio. Not sure why the comparison is being made.

Edit: The voter is pretty dumb to only vote for Jeter, but don't underplay his accomplishments.
