Watched the 1st game of the series against Arizona St. and Holloway is better suited as a winger. Had problems setting himself up to be open to accept a breakout off the D to D pass lots of other things to clean up.

However him coming in on the off wing was like a burly Tony Amonte back at BU. Caused chaos, set up the easy goal.

Ran the sim again, probably my favorite result thus far. Traded down from 1 to 3 w/ Ottawa (1 for 3, 21, 52), then from 3 to 4 w/ DET (3, 202 for 4, 32; 202 is just b/c it won't let you trade picks when the values are exactly equal) when LA took Drysdale at 2.

I wouldn't trade 1st overall for 4th and a late 1st. I think it would be 3rd overall + 5th overall if we trade it.

I love the Powell pick to be honest. Great value and in my opinion a steal similar to Zac Jones. Very similar player too

in this draft players you can get with 3rd and 5th overall I think add up to more than the guy at 1st overall. The number #1 guy is good, but not that good compared to the rest of top 5.

Lafreniere can start on 3rd line. in few years he would be on 2nd/1st line and Kreider can be on the 3rd line or traded. Lafreniere doesn't have to play center and we do not have a glut on LW.

I do think that if we get the 1OA pick, it isn't completely off the wall for us to build a trade with Ottawa around that 3rd and 5th pick; but Ottawa should be adding imo, not us.

Yeah, I wouldn't do it for 3+5 straight up. Maybe the NYI pick or a good prospect. Man, I would love to add Batherson.

If they don't want to give that, keep the pick and draft Lafreniere

I doubt that OTT would do 3+5 for 1 on its own, let alone adding. I wouldn't in their place. (I'd have done it in the draft sim, but the value of the 3 & 5 are higher than that of the 1, so the site doesn't let it happen)

That proposal really is dumb. Just take Lafreniere, or have Ottawa add a helluva lot more to a trade than that.

Absolutely. My model has him as a bottom end 2C.

Then again, my model is really rough, will have a better one by the middle of August. Learning R is really making a world of difference to adjust the model in any number of ways/cleaning up data.

The thing about mocks to consider is that some teams will take need based picks. Whether or not a team like FLA has the 14th pick or the 23rd pick, I would expect them to take Braden Schneider. They went with a need pick last year too, and they need defensemen that can defend.

I think I'd give up my first 4 picks for AL and a goalie. And the only reason why I'd want to trade down as a Rangers fan is to get Stutzle. I'd rather quality > quantity at this point but 3 and 5 would be awesome.
