The more I watch Tullio the more I’m thinking this was a home run pick.

He’s got a quick release and good one timer, being a right shot helps.

Turning 76 into Savoie and Tullio was the highlight of this draft.

Holloway, Savoie, and Tullio are likely already our 3 best forward prospects. That's largely an indictment on how weak our pool is as well. Nevertheless, those are 3 good forward prospects.

I'm not seeing it with Benson. I like McLeod but he's yet to ever really put it all together. Should be a decent 3rd/4th liner though hopefully.

I think both Benson and McLeod end up being bottom-6 guys for us. They both "play the right way", can skate (especially McLeod), have decent size, and willing to do some grinding work. I don't know if they can PK or not, but they both look to be prototypical bottom-6 guys.

I'll give the draft a solid B. As per my own personal rankings they ended up with a 1st, 2nd and two 3rd round prospects. I had(and still do have) strong opinions on who I wanted at our spot the last two years(Dobson/Podkolzin), but this year I knew that we were getting a strong prospect, and most likely a forward at our spot. Mercer or Amirov would have been my preference here, but not disappointed at all in Holloway. In my opinion they knocked it our of the park on their next 3 picks which makes it a strong draft regardless of the last two picks. Truth is, I didn't watch Engaras at all, so I can't speak to that pick other than to say with Pashin on the board I'm disappointed in missing on him. 7th round picks are shots in the dark. Lindewall has some intriguing qualities, so interested to see how he develops. (I'm only posting my preferences here for future reference - as always, I hope as a fan that the Oilers did a better job drafting than I would have).

I thought initially Holland moved down way too far and got bad value. But it worked out really nicely for us, especially after hearing we were targeting a defensive dman with #76.

I think McLeod will be a good bottom 6 guy. He’s got size and he’s a fairly responsible player. Good skater and defensively lanes/gap awareness.

I like the upside of our first three picks over him and Benson though.

Holloway is obvious, I did lots of further digging once the organization tipped their hand. I remember really liking his play internationally for Canada. Just a beast out there and competitive every shift. Big part of the team winning Gold. I think he’s got a clear foot up on making Team Canada at the WJC this year. Given who was available this was a very good pick.

I had Savoie in the 2nd so I loved that pick getting him in the 4th, but it’s Tullio who I think was a huge home run. Didn’t know a lot about this prospect before the pick, but I really like what I’m seeing.

Calgary was at 19 and the Rangers got the defenseman they wanted there so no reason for them to trade up to 14.
This doesn't seem right. I think it's clear the Flames weren't after Schneider.

It was on the radio. Near the end of their coverage on Ched yesterday.
Said he spent a lot of time on the phone leading up to the draft talking to teams about moving down, then when 14 came up no one was wanting to move up.

It was a pretty steep drop off after 13. Lots of mocks had the 13 players that were picked ahead of the Oilers in the top 13 which was a bit shocking quite frankly that not one of them dropped and is why the value of trading up to 14 went down exponentially the moment Jarvis was picked. I like Holloway and really like the fit but 14 was probably the worst spot to be in the 1st round.

In any event, I'm happy enough with the 1st 3 picks. I give Holland an A+ for going into the draft with no 2nd or 4th and winding up getting two players who could have gone in the 2nd with an extra 4th and 5th, players who fill pipeline needs too. I don't really care too much about 6th and 7th round picks, it's all a major crapshoot at that point so overall I give the draft a B+ and I give the day a higher grade because he was able to get Puljujarvi signed to an excellent deal (love the 2 years and really surprised). It was like adding an extra prospect because I never thought he would play for the Oilers again. Holland handled the Pulju situation perfectly.

Gave it a C+ - but willing to admit the vast majority of the my information comes from reading articles online so I'm biased towards the perspectives of the articles I read.

I'll go with a B. I wanted to go with a C, but hard to hammer them on 6th and 7th round picks.

The draft fell worst case scenario for 14th overall. I'm okay with Holloway. Think Tony Granato will take good care of him and hoping he lights it up with Caufield and impresses at WJC camp.

The trade back worked swimmingly and saved the draft. Carter Savoie will be an interesting project to follow, and snatching Tullio was the highlight of our draft.

I'd like to know Holland's track record on late round Swedes. I didn't like the last two picks, especially the 6th where I felt we didn't need to walkabout so soon with a less than full assortment of picks this year.

We addressed depth issues at forward. I like that the common themes of speed and competitiveness in our selections. I worry that our forward prospect cupboard doesn't have enough players that have projectable higher end offensive skill qualities.

Pronman gave us a C+.

He comments on skating issues for all of them except Holloway and our last pick who he didn't have a write up on.

Yeah, that's what surprised me about the picks. Both Holland and Wright were talking about the importance of speed and that it was something they looked for in prospects, yet they took a lot of guys in this draft that are said to have skating issues? Pretty strange.

Didn’t someone say it would be almost unheard of for none of the top 13 to drop? ;)

Very strange. Must think its something they can fix with these guys.

"Skating issues"

Holloway is a great skater. Savoie has quickness, average skating, but not great skating for a guy his size. I think Tullio skates fine. Berezkin has heavy boots. Skating and work ethic are suppose to be strengths for Engaras.

I wondered the same. Here's the "recent" history there:

2007- Joakim Andersson, 88th overall (205 NHL games)
2008- Gustav Nyquist, 121st overall (570 and counting)/Jesper Samuelsson, 211th (0 GP)
2009- Adam Almquist, 210th overall (2 GP, impressive given how late that was)
2010- Calle Janrkork, 51st overall (459 and counting)
2011- Mattias Backman, 146th overall (0 games, a bust)
2012- Rasmus Bodin, 200th overall (0 games)
2013- Mattias Janmark, 79th (closing in 300 games)/Hampus Melen 199th (0 games)
2014- Christoffer Ehn, 114th (106 GP)/Axel Holmstrom 197th (0 games)
2015- Joren Van Pottelberghe, 110th (0 GP so far but probably not an NHL player)

It looks like a mixed bag but if you divide them into2st-6th round and 7th round it's a much better story IMO:

2nd-6th: 5/7 played any NHL games, all of them 100 or more (Andersson, Nyquist, Jarnkrok, Janmark, Ehn)
7th: 1/5 played any NHL games (Almquist)

So taking out the 7th round where no one should be too mad about missing, that's a 71% success rate. Absolutely nuts.

I was trying to think of a way to type what you said in the first paragraph. Think you summed it up perfectly.

totally agree with the rest of your comment as well.

Just watched some highlights and Holloway is actually pretty gritty reminds me a bit of M.Tkachuk, meanwhile his skating ,skill, and size reminds me if poor mans Bo Horvat.

Hopefully he pans out

Actually feel pretty good about our forward prospects now. Some potentially really good players here.
