Then they would have risked losing Kapanen and Johnsson to offer sheets if Dubas decided to keep Marleau.

Plus Marleau wanted to be traded back to San Jose since him and his family were moving back there after the Toronto was eliminated by Boston in the playoffs last year.
If kappy/Aj sign offer sheets f*** em

don't let the door hit you ,

and here we are

the 3 top names to be moved and clear space, AJ/KAPPY/Kerfoot

What a genius Dubas is turning out to be...moves Marleau plus the Leafs first for an overpaid Marner...flushing the organizations cash and valuable assets down the toilet like it's a boatload of sh!t.

When Nonis lost the entire 2nd line and got no assets back, I said it put us back 3 years (I was right and anyone can find the post). This is about the same or worse possibly because the overpays.

You can bash Dubas for making the trade he did to get rid of Marleau.

However he was put into that position because of Lou Lamoriello who was their GM that thought it was a good idea to give Marleau 3 years and $6.25 million AAV.

Crazy that Marleau ended up in the Eastern Conference with the Penguins and finished the year in a bubble in Toronto.

That's the absolute irony of it all. He trades the 13th pick to keep the guys he has to move 12 months later.

You can't write this shit

To be fair, Hyman was injured to start the season and Mikheyev was an unknown at the NHL level. The depth wasn't really there to be able to trade away a forward. The team's early exit and the effect on the draft placement of the pick are what I don't like about this situation.

At the time he was traded to Carolina so they could buyout his contract and eventually signing with the Sharks for $700,000 AAV, no one would have thought he would be okay going to Pittsburgh for one last run at winning a Stanley Cup. So if anything that makes Marleau look like the bad guy when he did not want to consider playing for Los Angeles when they were talking with Toronto about trading for him.

Kinda glad they didn't win, it would have been too easy of an out. They have the assets to have made a cup run by now if the roster and everything had been put together properly. This really is going to force some more creative thinking and potentially two big instead of one trade, it's a possible blessing in disguise imo.

We have something in storage here for Dubas... I bet with the right tweaking we can send him and Karen back the Sue.
