The other thread was locked, and I don't see a new one.

Färjestad is a top team in the league on paper, but they've had a nightmare start to the season. After 5 games they are dead last in the league. That's not great news for Dallas who has 3 prospects on this team.

Albin Eriksson returned from injury for Game 4 of the season, but he missed Game 5 today. He played about 9 minutes in his return from a knee injury.

Jacob Petersen has a goal and an assist through 5 games, and he's averaging 15:02 ice timer per game. Oscar Back still only has that 1 assist from Game 1, and he's averaging 14:04 per game.

Samuel Sjölund has already played a U20 game, and he was out of the 1st HockeyAllsvenskan game for AIK. They're apparently extremely deep on D, and they have some quality players on loan that they didn't have earlier if I'm reading the article translation right. Sjölund in most of the pre-season notes in Sweden was one of the top rookies to watch in the league, but it might be tougher for him to get minutes now because of all of the European loans. It's trickled down to lower leagues since quality players are getting pushed out elsewhere by NHL assignments for prospects.

He could spend some extra time in junior until the NHL/AHL hopefully return.

Fredrik Karlström has 2 goals (scored in the same game) through 4, and he's averaging 14:27 of ice time.

It really sucks all the paywalls in Sweden. still very little info you can find about SHL or HockeyAllsvenskan.

Not seeing much talent wise over there in Sweden. Karlstrom and Peterson will never make it past AHL, Back might be a 4C.. Sjolund is a looooooooooooooooooooooong shot to doing anything.

Stuff like this makes me wonder why anyone would want to trade down, especially from 30. Likely not getting anything past round 2 but a bunch of garbage. Not even worth a shot. At 30 you can at least get someone who should be higher but has like work ethic issues or some crap that can be worked on

Because statistically past like the top 15 or so, it's better to have more chances at getting a good player later than one chance early.

Actually more talent there than I expected, especially in the last 10ish years

Still not opposed to trading down at all though.

Whats the delta in value when you trade down 5-15 spots though?

If a team isn’t going to be picking until the latter half of the first round, the draft becomes more of a quantity game than a quality game. If those first round picks can get you good players now in a trade, teams should be less hesitant to move them as long as they can find ways to recoup picks later in the draft. If a team isn’t picking in the first half of the first round, they should be more focused on how many picks they have and less on where those picks fall. For a contending team, it hardly matters if they have one pick in every round or no firsts, one second, two thirds, no fourths, three fifths, no sixths, and two sevenths. They’re probably going to pull the same value in either of those scenarios.

I agree with your logic Satan, but from an argument stand point, rather than focusing on simply the same pick year to year, it would be interesting to see a cluster of picks around 30. I know that's the way people look at it, but I think the team picking matters as well and is obviously usually going to be different most years.

I think it would be interesting to see how many NHLers are drafted say 25-35 to get a good idea at the value of the pick.

It's not necessary ... I just think it would be interesting. I think quantity is the way to go if possible in most situations.

So I kind of peaked at the 2011-2015 drafts in that 25 to 35 range. There were some interesting names including some very good players in the league right now. It still seemed to favor quantity though.

Sebastian Aho and David Pastrnak were the gems of that group though for sure. Aho went 35th in 2015, and Pastrnak went 25th in 2014. Shea Theodore was another name that stuck out. He was 26th in 2013.

Dom wrote a good article about this in June: By the numbers: Revisiting the true value of a draft pick

That table was just a quick and dirty snapshot of what's going to be in our ballpark (up to 2013 was already done for me on some website lmao)

Should we post the picks 45 and 70 since 1980 as well?

Patrice Bergeron and Rob Blake.

The top prospects they would have loaned were in the playoffs. Right now, the target date for return is January 1st. If it got pushed back further, I could see them further exploring that option, but it's probably too late. I'm not overly concerned though. Harley and Dellandrea both could play in the OHL for a short period of time if needed. Dellandrea would be an overage player, but I'm sure someone would take him for a month or so to get off to a good start.

Robertson is the one guy you might search for an overseas option. Obviously Dellandrea would probably be better off in Europe than an overage start in the OHL. Just wanted to point out he was still eligible for OHL though.

Jacob Peterson seems to have missed today's game in the SHL with a lower body injury.

Are we supposed to interpret that emoji “that” way?

Honestly no clue ... I just noticed he missed the game, and that was the explanation I found. There's nothing lost in translation about that emoji, but maybe there was some sarcasm or humor lost in Google translate.

Is Karlstrom ever gonna play in the AHL or is he just irrelevant at this point

One of those guys that just confuses me as to why he's even still around unless they think he has a future here

They've been slower to bring some Euro players over. He confirmed in an article in Sweden that he'd be in Texas for the 21-22 season.
