In an ideal cap situation he wouldn't be a bad option for a 7th D pk specialist but at the moment it's a reach.
Agreed. If we've got like 800-900K lying around AFTER we've sign Seg, Toni, and Cernak than sure, why not.

He wouldnt be getting the same minutes he still gets in Boston here though, which is one of many reasons I think he doesn't sign here regardless if we had money or not

IDK...At this stage of his career, limited minutes while bringing the fam to sunny FL could be attractive if we just didn't happen to be in the same division. I get the feeling he'd retire rather than slightly tarnish the rep he built in Boston. Oh whaaale

Bruins fan coming in peace

I don’t know if it has been brought up here yet but Z and his family already have a home in Florida. He spent the Covid break there so he could train in warmer weather.

@GlenFeatherstone where in FL? I believe he's friends with Brady; he and Cernak are from same country but difference in age seems like Cernak might have looked up to him as he career grew vs. being friends

I couldn’t tell you what part of Florida he is in sorry. I wouldn’t say friends with Brady as much as two sports legends in this town that have a mutual respect and admiration for each other. The feeling by some is that once they get Debrusk done they will go back to Chara. Some fans on our board are ready to move on and play the kids as Cassidy won’t limit his minutes and go with him 20+ minutes a night. I think Tampa is the perfect fit for him if he’s not back here and wants to continue playing.

I just wish Sweeney would help you guys with your salary cap problem and look into acquiring Killorn and/or McDonagh.

I would love to see Chara as a 7th D with limited minutes; maybe 12 - 13 a game. The fear, imo, that he puts on the ice just by being there is still worthy of a contract because face it, at what 8'10" the dude is a warrior; no one effs with Chara. Ever.

Am not going to be surprised, either, if Chara ends up back in Boston. Snarks let Thornton go but that seems unusual. Let your legends retire where they are. Reason #1xxx why I'm not a GM ;)

Could I offer you a Johnson + a pick instead of Killer?! :D

Owns a condo within the Longboat Key Club in Sarasota County. Fun fact - his Florida home is about 10 minutes away from Vinik's home on Lido Key.

Tampa, FL.
where does foote fit on the team with all the veteran d there...?
If Rutta is not re-signed, then could see the d pairs look like this:
Hedman-Sergachev
McDonagh-Cernak
Coburn-Foote
Schenn

If Rutta is re-signed and they move Coburn, then:
Hedman-Rutta
McD-Cernak
Serg-Foote
Schenn
Or if Coburn is kept and they figure out how to keep Rutta as well
Hedman-Rutta
McD-Cernak
Serg-Foote
Coburn-Schenn(if they run 8 dmen)

Hi Folks,

For those not familiar, "The Hockey Guy' is a pretty down to earth fan of the game who isn't know for hot takes or being an insider of any description. I find him quite balanced in his approach to all teams.

His strength lies in the history of hockey and the feel of having a conversation with a fairly knowledgeable fellow fan. Thought I'd Post this here for anyone looking for content during the Off-Season:

I do like THG because he has consistent content every day. My only critique of him is that a lot of his analysis seems to be reading stats off a board, but he does have a good depth of hockey knowledge to back it up. Not to mention that he's a likeable, personable guy.

Agree with you on all your points. I realized just after Posting that I should have placed this in the General Discussion Thread so I've moved it.

I mean we've only been saying that all season long. What's weird is how little noise there has been about it vs. Johnson.

I thought we'd be able to get Serg for cheaper to be honest and in a dream scenario all we'd lose is Johnson and Coburn. Killorn will have to be moved now, he had a career year and solid playoffs. Replacing him and a rookie will be a big downgrade.

This was never going to happen. Killorn and one of Johnson Gourde Palat was always what was going to happen.

Coburn's full NTC also makes moving him unlikely considering it's cheap and he only has a year left, so he is less inclined to waive it. Retirement is more likely than a trade.

Ok now that Serge has signed things are easier to project. Roster size is 19 and currently $1.9 Million over the cap.

Say it takes $8 Million to sign Cerelli, Cernek, and add two more to the NHL roster (Foote, Volkov?). Around $10 Million over.

Trading TJ and Killer saves $9,450,000, but the Lightning lose two roster players that need to be replaced. Best case that would cost $1.5 Million (Joseph, ABB?)?

Still need to find another $2 Million in cap space. I really don’t know where it’s coming from. Maybe Cirelli and Cernek sign for way below market? Foote I think is locked in at 925M. What will ABB, Joseph and Volkov cost?

If we're adding two more to the roster why do the other two need to be replaced? I'm confused.

Ceddy and Coburn seems like the other people out the door. We also need a buffer for injuries. Still come up short I think. Sign Kovalchuk...
