While this isn't that big of deal, it does make me wonder about the scout & whether that guy should even be in the NHL. We often talk about how good Ottawa is at drafting or how we should trust the scouts, but this guy makes me question them. Add to this Ottawa's financial problems we also have to wonder whether they can even afford a good scouting staff. Isn't Ottawa's scouting staff one of the smallest in the NHL too?

They cannot afford a proper scouting staff. This is well known.

Pronman is doing his organizational rankings count down (for players 22 y/o and younger). As it stands right now, he has Ottawa in the top 8. Its pretty good considering that Chabot, White, Chlapik and Balcers would all miss the cut off as they're 23

And presumably doesn't include the 2 top 5 picks this year...

It will be hard to not have the best prospect pool after this draft

1- Drake Batherson (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #1)
2- Josh Norris (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #2)
3- Erik Brannstrom (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #3)
4- Logan Brown (Prospect Info: - Prospect Info: Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #4)
5- Jacob Bernard-Docker (Prospect Info: - Prospect Info: Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #5)
6- Alex Formenton (Prospect Info: - Prospect Info: Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #6)
7- Shane Pinto (Prospect Info: - Who is the Sens #7 Prospect at the moment?)
8- Lassi Thomson (Prospect Info: - Who is the Sens #8 Prospect at the moment?)
9- Rudolfs Balcers (Prospect Info: - Who is the Sens #9 Prospect at the moment?)
10- Joey Daccord (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #10 - TIE BREAKER)
11- Vitaly Abramov (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #11)
12- Filip Chlapik (Prospect Info: - Prospect Info: Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #12)
13- Artyom Zub (Prospect Info: - Prospect Info: Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #13)
14- Mads Søgaard (Prospect Info: - Prospect #14- TIE BREAKER)
15- Max Lajoie (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #15)
16- Filip Gustavsson (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #16)
17- Kevin Mandolese (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #17)
18- Angus Crookshank (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #18)
19- Jonathan Davidsson (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #19)
20- Jonny Tychonick (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #20)
21- Maxence Guénette (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #21)
22- Parker Kelly (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #22)
23- Jonathan Gruden (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #23)
24- Olle Alsing (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #24)
25- Mark Kastelic (Prospect Info: - Sens Board Prospects Ranking 2020 #25)

Plus add #3 and #5 Oa picks, a late 1st, 33rd OA, 3 other 2nd round picks and 2 more high 3rd round picks. we're picking 9 times in the top-70 (that must be some kind of record)

If Dorion and his crew don't screw things up, we'll have an insane top-30 with crazy depht and very high quality top-10. When Alex Formenton might be your 10th best prospect, it's looking good.

The only real comptition would be LA, NYR, NJ and DET but they have been graduating some high end prospects already (Hughes, Kakko, etc) and are not picking high as much as the Sens.

Its worth noting that the 6 teams ahead of us according to Proman outside of vancouver all have good to great picks this draft

NYR 1, 22 OA
NJD 7, 18, 20 OA
BUF 8 OA
CAR 13 OA
TOR 15 OA

Our <22 org ranking likely supasses Tor and Carolina after the draft no problem, but it's a bit more difficult to assess for Buf, NJD and in particular NYR.

IMO those are fair assessments. I'm a little surprised that Formenton leapfrogged Batherson, but then Formenton did take a big step forward this year. Prior to the previous season, I thought he was likely to be a third liner at the NHL level, but now I think he has a shot at being a top 6 forward. Additionally, Batherson falling below Formenton may have to do with him not really taking the next step.

I suspect some will take issue with Brown and Pinto not even making the "very good" category, even if I think "Legit NHLer" is reasonable for them.

Ah well, 7th is really good, and after the next draft top 5 seems very likely.
