Centers are overrated and overpaid. Load up on the wings, and load up on the defense. Find good, responsible, reliable cost-efficient centers.
Load up on talent whenever and wherever you can, but you're still going to have to find a quality center or two at some point.

Quality, yes. I'm just not sure it has to be the quality that a lot of Wild fans are pining for.
Ok, I see what you're saying. I agree with you. Right now the Wild have enough young assets that they should be able to be a player the next time a center comes available

Centers are overrated? I disagree strongly.

First line center on his beer league team, still holding it down.

Guy had a 10+ year career as a professional hockey player with a good taste of the NHL. Trying to get kicks outta him on an online message board isn't a good look.

I'm not intending to disrespect him as a player or a person, just making a joke about his abilities as "1st line center" and the Wild's usage of him as such. If anything, I'm making fun of the Wild, and they deserve it plenty for using him as a 1st line center. Nobody and nothing is above a good natured ribbing, including me.

Whatever his career was before it, O'Reilly was definitely a top tier center last season. Unless "top tier" is supposed to mean the McDavid/Crosby/MacKinnon level or something.
IMO- "top tier" can't go too far past top 10 at the position. O'Reilly isn't that.

15th in center scoring + a Selke win. I think the defense is probably enough to make up the 3 point difference between he and Seguin, the 5 point difference between he and Eichel and Monahan. He was the 15th best center last season at absolute worst, and I think the more correct spot would be in the 10-12 range.

Clearly there are more top tier centers than 10 in the league, for example O'Reillys stats are almost identical to Toews last season.
Dont know about the analytics but results speak for themselves in this case.

Not to mention 23 points in 26 games in the playoffs, 8 goals and 15 assists. Lead his team in points, 3rd in goals.
