If a Central American drug lord wants you dead, I think he knows/can find people willing to do a hit in the US. And, being a famous figure like Ortiz, it's not like he can just lay low or hide somewhere random. Dude's going to be looking over his shoulder as long as that drug lord and anyone friendly to him is alive.

A multimillionaire like DH has no business going back to “hang out” in a place like the DR, home country or not, particularly to be hanging out in open air bars, night clubs or common bars. Totally foolish. There’s a reason the State Dept has a Level 2 advisory about traveling there. And that’s for John Q Public. A lot of people from there never go back once out. For good reasons.
