Karlsson vs Dahlen in the Allsvenkan today.

Dahlen with a goal so far. His fourth goal and ninth point in three and a half games.

Karlsson pointless. He has one goal, an empty netter, in three and a half games. He has been playing right wing on the third line.

Any reports on Karlsson's size? Last I heard he had a growth spurt and went from 6'0 to a shade under 6'3. Haven't seen it listed anywhere publicly though.

That added height would be welcome for a checking centre.

How much of a red flag is it for Dahlen that he still isn't playing in the SEL?

It's actually the Allsvenskan, which is a massive red flag. That's a clear step down from the AHL, and that tells me that he really wasn't even close to an NHL job at this point. He could have stuck it out and worked his way into a midseason call up, instead he went back home and dropped down 2 teirs in the process. He can score all he wants in that league, but he needed to refine the rest of his game - and that isn't going to happen in the Allsvenskan. Stick a fork in him, Karlsson too. A forward that can't score in lower levels, doesn't have an NHL future... possibly being a few inches taller doesn't change that.

Karlsson is a long-shot prospect but we might want to wait longer than 3 games to write him off.

Are you oblivious to what he has done during the rest of his career? His draft+1 year was very underwhelming, and it's extremely rare for even NHL defensive specialists to not have scored at a good clip in lesser leagues. That's 4 games now, and only 1 point. Not a convincing start. At some point, even the longshots have to start showing...something

He's practically under the "hope and a prayer" category.

Far too early to write off a 19 year old with 4 games played this season. As I said, he's a long-shot prospect. But that has nothing to do with his 4 games played this season.

How has he looked this year? Is he improved from last season? What have you seen or heard thus far?

It's a mystery to me why Dahlen can light it up in Allvenskan but completely flop in the AHL. One of those European players who can't adapt to the smaller ice surface I guess. Doubt he ever reappears in N.A.

When you're talking about a forward prospect that needs to just about triple his point totals from last season what Karlsson does aside from scoring doesn't mean a thing as far as status as a prospect goes. He needs to start scoring at a PPG rate before any of his other skills remotely start to matter. That's the cold truth about this fringe prospect.

not sure if trolling or you don't understand european hockey. karlsson is signed to a team that got demoted so being in the alls means nothing about him personally. he played for the same team in the elite league last year and would be again if that had not occurred. if he was a more prominent prospect he might be traded but that's very uncertain.

Could be a real fifth rounder 'sleeper pick' by the Canucks. Broke into the Dub as a 15 year old, but didn't do much in Tri-City before breaking out last season after a trade to the Hitmen. Might have played his way on to Canada's WJC squad with a strong summer camp. And looks poised for big year offensively....wheels and shot very impressive in those highlight packages. Obviously those few days in the Canuck training camp really helped him.

Nice start for Focht - good to see him running hot after Green singled him out for praise at camp, too.

Yeah, it's going to be really interesting to see if he can pick up where he left off from the end of last season with the Hitmen, or whether the torrid finish was a bit of a mirage. The First 20 games this year will tell us a lot.

I think he will be a Cole Cassels type of tease player.

Remember how high some were on Cole Cassels after the Memorial cup?

Except that Cole just couldn't skate.....everyone agreed at the time that he'd have to pick up a step-and-a half to ever make it. No such issues with Focht....he already has the foot-speed to make it in the pros.

Not exactly, he was drafted before i paid too much attention, but i do remember just about every fan on this site saying they were the one who was CAUTIOUS about Cassells well the rest of the forum was dumb and thought Cassells was great cause defended Mcdavid good
