I think Eovaldi turns it around and Sale is good when he pitches. Price has been in worse places. Erod is OK. Just sign the right guy to replace Porcello.

Just can't believe we thought it would be OK to not give Sale a break in early August like we do every year.

Don't think anyone can screw up the lineup. JBJ and Sandy are the ones I'd move on from.
Sale is a huge problem,he was a bad pitcher for long stretches with some brilliance thrown in. When a power pitcher is transitioning to a lot of offspeed stuff, elbows become a concern. So we have a pitcher whose shoulder was always a second half concern, and now we have an elbow on top of it. Not sure what to do about this guy-maybe the bullpen.

didnt like the timing of this, you'd think an organization that has 4 world series in recent times didnt need to pull the midnight firing and trying to distract from the Pats win. Then again Henry, the Globe etc have always seemed very insecure about the success of the Pats organization.

As Shaughnessy mentions in his article, the idea that this was expected, even inevitable, has been floating around for weeks and ownership did nothing to stand by Dombrowski or show support.

That’s their prerogative.

Their success speaks for itself. It’s second only to the Patriots in these parts. There have been great seasons, mediocre seasons and awful seasons.

This has been just mediocre.

However, the writing is on the wall as far as the roster.

Whomever they find to replace Dombrowski might consider renting as opposed to buying in the area. The job doesn’t seem to have a ton of security.

BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Red Sox today announced that they have parted ways with President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski.

Dombrowski was notified of the club’s decision by Red Sox Principal Owner John Henry, Chairman Tom Werner, and President & CEO Sam Kennedy.

“Four years ago, we were faced with a critical decision about the direction of the franchise,” said Henry. “We were extraordinarily fortunate to be able to bring Dave in to lead baseball operations. With a World Series Championship and three consecutive American League East titles, he has cemented what was already a Hall of Fame career.”

Dombrowski was named president of baseball operations on August 18, 2015. He has worked in baseball for over 40 years, and is among a handful of executives who have constructed World Series winning teams in both the National and American Leagues.

“Dave will hold a special place in franchise history as a key architect of one of the greatest Red Sox teams ever assembled,” said Werner. “His willingness to make bold moves helped deliver our fourth World Series Championship in the 21st century."

“Dave and I enjoyed a tremendous partnership these past four seasons,” said Kennedy. “His baseball acumen and relentless pursuit of winning produced a season that will long be remembered by all of us.”

A search for the next baseball operations leader will begin immediately. During this process, the baseball operations department will be led by Assistant General Managers Brian O’Halloran, Eddie Romero and Zack Scott. In addition, Senior Vice President of Major and Minor League Operations Raquel Ferreira will take on an expanded role within the transition team.

There will be no formal media availability regarding today’s announcement. The Red Sox will have regular media access prior to tonight’s game.

1) Was never a Dombrowski guy. Think his "all-in" for a few years approach is the wrong one. Baseball's post-season is too hard to guarantee anything even with a super team ( i.e. the Dodgers). When it doesn't work you can lose a decade as a franchise. (i.e. the Tigers).

2) But it worked! He did exactly what John Henry brought him in to do. 108 wins and a WS title. You hire someone to do one specific thing and then they do it, what else did you want?

3) This is a bat**** crazy firing. The title isn't even a year old. This is his first down year. WTF?

4) Firing him at 12:30 am after a Pats game is ****ing embarrassing. Amateur hour. And if he gets smeared in the media this week Henry won't have Lucchino to hide behind.

Indeed.

Top 3 starters all fall on their faces, tough to overcome that.

How do you not hold a press conference after you just fired your top baseball ops guy?

This organization is such a clown show sometimes.
It's kind of been traditional, while not a huge fan of current ownership they aren't racists (Yawkey's), haven't sold their best player to produce a play and the whole "coup LeRoux" nonsense.

They have also won 4 World Series. Great guys to work for, under no circumstances from all appearances.

Good thing the Bruins don't have multiple owners like the Sox:sarcasm:

Alex Speier said they can’t have both JD & Betts

Good news is plenty of cheap tickets next 5 years

I’m stunned that Jeremy told his kids they all have equal state in running the team and one of the son-in-laws wants his hands at running it

Charlie voted out would be amazing but doesn’t seem like he’s got the votes

Hopefully this new guy is a fan

This only makes sense if Betts truly doesn't want to be here.

JDs market is Boston. No NL team is signing him, and his AL options are super limited.

He got us past some good teams to win last year.

Can't believe he thought it was OK to not turn any of the roster over at all I mean we couldn't even get a backup catcher thats just unhealthy.

Good time to cut bait but this isn't an easy hire we could screw it up. The AL is very good right now some 90 win team is gonna miss the playoffs under the new format and thats pretty much unheard of. Most years we are still safe for WC2. But I think even the fanbase is ready for an October off after the last few years to be totally honest.

Don’t worry Oakland and Tampa are gonna collapse any day now.
