Back to the GTHL today with Artem Guryev of the Toronto Marlboros. An electric two-way defenceman, Guryev can be devastating at both ends of the rink. He loves to throw booming open-ice checks and maintains tight gaps along the wall. He doesn't shy away from jumping into the rush to create odd-man rushes and has showcased show intriguing offensive upside. Guryev has a cannon from the point and can distribute the rock efficiently at both 5on5 and on the PP. With some fine-tuning to his skating and decision-making, Guryev could cement himself amongst the top tier of defencemen for the 2019 OHL Draft. For now, he projects as a mid-late 1st round pick.

Deni Goure is an elite goal-scorer with a pro-level release and impressive speed on the rush. A member of the Chatham-Kent Cyclones, Goure exhibits an admirable compete level in all three zones and has added 5 goals and 11 points in 8 tournament games this year. He can beat defenders wide or maneuver through traffic with his quick and creative hands. An offensive dynamo, Goure should be considered as one of the top prospects in Alliance this year and projects as a probable first round pick at the 2019 OHL Draft.

OHL Prospect Profile: Deni Goure
Caught Goure in action at the London tournament. I would not call his speed impressive. Can score though.

I’ve seen him be explosive with his speed with the puck but he takes a lot of shifts off which isn’t uncommon with this age group

Back to Alliance for Cole Hipkin of the Brantford 99ers. Hipkin is a solid two-way defenceman with intriguing offensive upside. He consistently holds opponents to tight gaps and is very reliable on the breakout, backed by a safe and effective first pass. He is extremely intelligent with excellent skating abilities and an exciting ceiling. Hipkin regularly showcases his instincts at both ends of the ice as he simultaneously reads and reacts to developing situations. He projects as a mid-1st round pick for the 2019 OHL Draft.

The third Toronto Marlboro on the list is elite two-way center, Wyatt Johnston. He has showcased an impressive offensive ceiling thus far in '18-19, backed by elite vision and playmaking abilities. Johnston is trusted to play a key role in all situations, and has boasted a strong two-way game through his ability to thrive in the D-zone as well. On the rush, Johnston uses a quick first three steps and smart edgework to become a shifty opponent, along with creative hands as well. Overall, Johnston projects to be a mid-late first round pick for the 2019 OHL Draft.

Thanks for doing these write ups on future OHL prospects. Nice heads up for OHL fans who really don't get out to see these kids on a regular basis. I would only see them here in KW at the Gold Cup if it's held here in town.

As we move into October today, we begin the month with our next edition of 2019 OHL Draft Rankings. This month featured its fair share of movement after Ontario's AAA Minor Midget regular seasons began. It's another strong year for the GTHL, with 5 teams represented within the top 20, led by 4 players from the dominant Don Mills Flyers. As we said, the Alliance is enjoying a bounce-back year, and shows its strength with 5 prospects in our Top 20 here. Additional to our Ranking, we've included 3 Players to Watch. These are some of our favourite top prospects who have utilized a strong start to the season to drastically improve their draft stock.

2019 OHL Draft Ranking: October Top-20

Checking the EP profiles of some of these players and Zach Dean is from out east. That will eliminate his eligibility

Next up is Braeden Kressler of the Mississauga Senators. Although he doesn't play for a high-end team within the GTHL this season, Kressler is a tireless competitor capable of driving his team's offence on a nightly basis. Known for his smooth hands and strong shot, Kressler projects to be made a late first-round choice in the upcoming 2019 OHL Priority Selection.

My son was on that ball team with Kressler. He’s a hell of a ball player too. But looks like he picked the right sport.

Today we look at Brett Harrison of the Alliance's London Jr. Knights. Harrison is a strong, two-way centre who is a puck possession machine. He can carry the puck through all three zones with ease and uses smart body and stick positioning to protect the puck. With a lethal wrist shot, Harrison has a promising offensive ceiling, and tends to lead London's forecheck as an offensive catalyst. Harrison currently projects as a Top-40 pick for the 2019 OHL Draft.

Up next, we're taking a look at Samuel Moncada of the GTHL's Toronto Young Nationals. Although he is slightly undersized for a goaltender at 5-foot-9, Moncada is incredibly athletic and positionally sound within the crease -- two facets of his game which combine to make him a top netminder eligible for the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.

Hey everyone, here's a quick look at the OHL's top 2002-born rookies for the month of October.

Most of these prospects are former GTHL stars, with the exception of Sarnia Sting standout Jacob Perreault. All of which have enjoyed tremendous success to begin their OHL careers, and should be viewed as excellent candidates for the 2020 NHL Draft.

A leader for one of the top Minor Midget teams in Ontario, Ryan Winterton is a reliable 2-way centre for the Whitby Wildcats who showcases natural offensive instincts and tremendous vision of the ice. He positions himself in beneficial lanes and can generate offence as both a sniper or a playmaker. Winterton displays a strong stride with a low center of gravity that makes him difficult to knock off of the puck, and shows above-average speed on the rush, where he can beat defenders wide or dangle right through them. He projects as a late 1st rd pick for the 2019 OHL Draft.

Eric Bonsteel of the GTHL's Mississauga Senators is a strong skating and reliable two-way defenceman. A natural on-ice leader, Bonsteel boasts great vision, a stellar shot, and the ability to move the puck throughout the ice with relative ease. Of solid size too, Bonsteel projects to be made a second-to-third round choice in the upcoming 2019 OHL Priority Selection.

Pasquale Zito is in his 1st year of GTHL action with the Mississauga Rebels, after coming over from Ottawa and the Ottawa Senators Bantam squad. He is a complete, two-way package and an offensive catalyst with excellent hockey sense and puck skills. Zito has an effective, powerful stride that is supported by a long stride with a low center of gravity, allowing him to protect the puck and demonstrate his skill at top speeds with evasive traits. He displays excellent sense of the ice through impressive playmaking skills and positioning in all three zones. Zito projects as a late-1st/early-2nd round pick for the 2019 OHL Draft.

Back to the Don Mills Flyers for a look at Brennan Othmann, a first line winger with a pro-level release. Othmann is a pure, offensive-generating machine with solid speed and an underrated sense of vision. He is an intelligent prospect who opts to take the play that presents itself and won't force high-risk options. Othmann is a reliable sniper on the powerplay as well, often curling off the half wall with an electric shot, or maneuvering out from behind the net and into the slot. Overall, Othmann has made himself a sure-fire first round prospect for the 2019 OHL Draft.

Another in a long line of talented Don Mills Flyers' forwards, Cole Eichler plays right wing on the 1st line alongside Shane Wright and Brennan Othmann to create what is likely the top line in all of Ontario. Eichler is a hard working prospect with an underrated sense of vision, and can be dynamic from below the dots. He plays with a grinder-like mentality, battling hard for loose pucks along the wall and becoming a nuisance in front of the net. Eichler regularly deflects pucks and hunts down rebounds, and is especially productive on the powerplay.
