When they say he needs to work on his skating they’re not referring to just his speed. He’s literally just a week skater.

- Edge work looks decent. Has room for improvement
- Good balance
- Good sense of ability to change direction/position
- Feet/hands/head all seem to be in sync with each other

- Agility seems poor
- Upper body form looks weird to me
- Body looks kinda stiff

Rust was always considered a top skating prospect. Speed was always the foundation of his game.
And now he doesn't seem as fast as he used to be and it shows. Speed isnt everything for youngsters, but they really have to work on it if its a weakness.

Nowadays, skating is what separates NHLers from guys playing in random leagues from NA to Japan.

He’s apparently got good vision and compete to go along with size so the skating isn’t a huge deal. Hornqvist and Bonino aren’t great skaters. Neither was Sundqvist. It’s about whether you can reach a certain baseline and what other things you can do.

Looking for next Crosby/Lemieux...not Hornqvist who was taken with very last pick.

Bust.

Bones played “fast”. Just knew where to go and made good decisions to go with working his ass off.

So, 3 more picks, and we've survived the 1st round without JR making a stupid Letang trade?

Draft just set us back 10 years. Im out.

Go Pirates. Actually have management..
We're a middling team now. Each year will get increasingly difficult to make the playoffs. Its the circle of the NHL. Embrace it.

In 6 or 7 years this kid will be one of the players keeping the franchise afloat during the rebuild.

Can anyone think of one example in very recent years (as the game switched to speed) where a prospect needed to work on their skating and then became a good skater at the NHL level?

That's just a legit question. Not saying it can go either way. Just wondering out loud.
