Geez there's a lot of imagining in this thread!

If Columbus and Carolina make it to the ECF along with Blues or Dallas and Colorado that should jump us 4 spots because they are all lower then us in the standings. So let's all pray this happens.

Caught some U18 highlights finally.
Caufield's a beauty.
The Jamieson Ress kid from Canada is good.
Noticed he hadn't played his full season so his stock may have dropped from that.

I'd trade up for Kaliyev.

Not the guy you spend assets on to move up imo

Highlights don’t do Rees justice. Kids a honey badger out there. Having a great tournament.

There were some clips that showed his honey badgerness.
Definitely a guy that belongs higher than he's ranked atm.
I can understand concerns about skating but I think he’s a case of being overanalyzed. First I just don’t think his skating is that bad. He’s not a burner from A to B but he’s fluid and when he does get a half step he can cut and get body position and maintain it and make plays. And skating deficiencies should be factored in with other things like size, if he was 5’11” I can see an argument that he’s a risk in the mid-to-late 1st but not at 6’2”.

If the new speed NHL has taught us anything, we should really quit putting emphasis on size. If the kid is 5’6” or 5’7” and is an offensive dynamo with a huge heart, I’ll take him every day or the week over the slower less skilled ogre that will likely be a bottom six or AHL forward.

Give me guys like Grimaldi and Debrincat 8 days a week.

Can we even pick as low as 17?

Nope.
If i was a betting man, i don't think we'll have much luck in the East except CAR maybe figuring out Trotz/the Isles. Up one spot if that happens.

Money says STL will move on so we'll get pick #21.
COL/SJ...i favor SJ but COL are playing well and Mack may drag 'em thru to the CF.

Believe we'll get to pick #21 and maybe #20 but not #19.

Right now the pens are picking 22nd. If the Canes, BJs and Colorado make the Conference finals, then the pens move up on spot. Any where from 19 to 21.

Grab the best player available at any position other than goalie and I'm fine with it. As long as the dude is a great skater and has big upside, I don't really care who we target; be forward or defense. Picking where we pick, it's pretty low odds the guy has an NHL impact within two years, so I wouldn't really put too much emphasis on NHL readiness. There's nowhere in this roster for a first year, 18 year old kid to jump into anyway, aside from us picking a winger and having him blow everyone out of the water at camp, landing on Geno's wing to start the season.

That kids got game and gonna be the next maritimer(from Newfoundland) to be a really good NHL'er.
Pretty sure he goes before the highest we can pick at #19 tho...

Technically Newfoundland is not a part of The Maritimes. Batherson, Dobson and Bowers would be the next great hopes to be good NHLers from that region.

Newhook is a good one though.

Lavoie, Tracey, York, Brink and Fagemo are some other names I've liked what i've seen (albeit in limited viewing with the exception of Lavoie).

Would also be fine trading up for Boldy or Turcotte if they slip a little bit.
