Is it just me or does this draft seem to be weaker than this years? and to be honest, i'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to the 2019 draft.

First of all, I wouldn't consider that a good list.

But no, I don't think this is a worse draft than 2019. Less of a sure thing #1, but outside of that, its pretty similar or better. Different strengths and weaknesses. 2019 has better centers, 2018 had better defensemen. 2019 also has good goalie depth, 2018 had bad goalie depth. I think overall depth might be better in 2019, as well.

Dach is at least 6'4 now also, I wouldn't rank Bertuzzi that high at this moment, he had trouble getting into Guelph's lineup when healthy and really struggled at times.

2019 has more depth and star power than 2018. However there's more top-end centers projected so it may make it seem more impressive than it actually is

This draft definitely feels stronger than 2018. Huge top level center depth (Hughes, Turcotte, Zegras, Dach, Newhook, Lavoie), some very good defenseman (Söderström, Byram, Honka, York) and top wingers (Kakko, Kalieyv, Krebs, Pelletier, Cajkovic, Foote, Caufield). Even the goalies (Knight, Tikkanen) are better than 2018.

The top two of 2018 was pretty strong. This draft is looking solid, but outside of Hughes, I don't see anyone on Svechnikov's level at the moment. Obviously, guys like Byram, Turcotte or Kakko etc. could take steps forward to be viewed in that light (for example Laine's emergence improving the overall view of 2016).

I will say, this draft looks quite weak from an OHL perspective. Which generally, doesn't help a draft become viewed as strong. This could be changed due to imports coming or certain players emerging, and the NHL could be becoming less reliant on Ontario talent to drive the overall quality of drafts. Plus, Hughes was raised in Ontario, and he chose an alternative route, and if he was in the OHL the class would look much stronger (I'm not going to count the American based kids lost out to the USNTDP, as that is a common occurrence). WHL and USNTDP look extremely strong though compared to usual standards, and I don't know enough on the internationals especially the Russian's to speak on the quality over there.

I will say this, the center depth of the draft may make it look significantly stronger than 2018, considering the recent premium that has developed around centers at the top of the draft.

I believe Kaapo Kakko should be considered on the same level as Svechnikov, Svech had 9 P in 7 games as underaged in U18 while Kakko had 10, of course points is not everything but Kakko was clearly the best offensive threat in the team as a underager. Kakko also has the size and will get to play a full senior season the upcoming season, expect him being an impact player this year for TPS.

Here is my early version (pre Hlinka Tournament) of the 2019 draft. I am sure it will drastically change when hockey starts to be played again. Players can start their draft year as completely different prospects e.g. Ryan Strome who bulked over the summer and became a top-end prospect after spending the previous year as a skinny-minny. Anyone wanting the complete list (430 + players) can message me.
Oh, I purposely made the list for the first 4 rounds as 123 so you could point out who I had missed. Probably, should have left room for more than one, huh – next time.

Nice job. I don't agree with all but you found a lot of the Finns I think are worth ranked at the moment. Cool to see someone making a bigger list than top 31.

I hope Nikita Alexandrov can play the entire next season the way he did in the playoffs. If he does, he should be among the risers on many lists.

And Svechnikov got 2 points as a 15-year-old at the U-18's, while Kakko didn't make his team. Don't put too much weight into one tournament. Kakko could eventually get to Svechnikov's level, but I don't think to compare them a year from the draft they are at the same level. 17-year-old Svech clearly goes above 17-year-old Kakko. Now, a lot can change in a year.

Yeah it is not even a fair comparison as the 2016 Finnish team (so Kakko's 15 year season) Finland won gold.

Forwards in that team: Juha Jääskä, Jesse Puljujärvi, Kristian Vesalainen, Sami Moilanen, Joona Koppanen, Janne Kuokkanen, Eetu Tuulola, Eeli Tolvanen, Aapeli Räsänen, Emil Oksanen, Otto Somppi, Otto Mäkinen and Markus Nurmi. 9 of them are drafted, 3 first rounders. No need for Kakko.

I can definitely see why Russia needed Svechnikov in 2015 though.

Kakko didn't make the 2017 team, where Finland finished 2nd. Your thinking a year too far ahead for both. My main point wasn't to hold not making the team against Kakko, more that we can't over weight one tournament and use that as the primary form of comparison. Although in retrospect, I just remembered that the 2016 Russian team was the team that got almost all banned for meldonium, so it is not like Svech made a full-scale Russian team.

Kakko is a great prospect and has impressed me when I have watched him, I just think he's behind Svech at the same age. He's ahead of Zadina, Tkachuk and Wahlstrom a year ahead of their drafts.

Yeah I wasn't saying that and as I got the year wrong, my bad. Kakko has been injured so much that I have to think if that had something to do with him not being in the team in 2017, as that doesn't look very strong. Probably not. It was very nice to see him play in the U18 WHC this year as he missed all the other games (+ Hlinka) because of injuries. Svechnikov can be ahead at the moment, but I think Kakko has great potential and we know for sure who is better in 5 years. Maybe sooner.

Here's what I'm thinking, Hughes yes is the consensus here for #1 overall, but he's small, and doesn't have lots of weight on him at all. There's lots of big, highly skilled centres that already have 20 pounds plus on him, as well as frames to get even bigger. I could see quite a few challenging for #1 overall.
Crazy opinion but just something I'm thinking of!

It's going to be tough. Despite his size Hughes is the type of player who makes everyone who plays with him better. Incredible skater, incredible stickhandler, has a great shot and high IQ with incredible vision and passing ability to make plays out of nothing. There is none of the big boys that come close to his skill level and I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Let’s see your ID, Mr. Bulldog

born to Russian parents in Staten Island New York

A 6-foot-2, 185-pound winger, Kaliyev was born to Russian parents in Staten Island, NY on June 26, 2001 and he has the paperwork to prove it. He also has a quick, heavy and effective shot, which, coupled with a light accent (his family speaks Russian at home), helps fuel the rumblings.
