I don't understand why guys would throw away their careers over what amounts to like a few series' worth of pay.

Because most professional athletes in certain sports are dumb. All they do is sports. They go to college but they don't take real classes or have people do the work for them.

Not all. Depends on the sport. The bigger issue is how irresponsible they are, especially football players. Athletes aren’t paid to be smart, they’re paid to do their jobs. Most football players arent good and don’t last, which makes the whole situation even more hilarious. All this guy had to do is not get in trouble and he’d have gotten $11mm. He could’ve been f***ing garbage and he’d have made that money. If he were good he’d get one more contract. For many football players their first contract is their only contract. It’s just frustrating.

Thankfully the Giants weren’t expected to be good. This really makes Gettleman’s seat even hotter as he was the one who not only drafted him, but traded up to get him.

Chicken and egg. That stadium is empty because that game sucks. The game doesn’t suck because the stadium is empty.
Ok, fair point.

Still, the idea that a "no atmosphere" game is a potential problem is real. I read yesterday the NFL was considering some way of adding fans to the stands and adding in crowd noise.

If you have a chance to draft a top CB who has great character, they usually go in the top 15. It was worth the risk at 30 with 2, 1st round picks already in their pocket. The kid turned out to be a thug. Now they have to have somebody like Love or Beal step up.

Since all the witnesses have recanted it looks like Baker is going to get off on this one.

The pendulum swing from an immense prison sentence to likely nothing is wild.

That's why you don't rush to judgement. Then again, are you sure the witnesses (and the victim) recanted or is it just Baker's lawyers who said they did?
