Mendez has twice shown his power and precision with a couple of great long range attempts on goal. One from a set piece and another in open play.

Dest struggled mightily on the defensive side that half, but looked decent going forward. Really impressed with Pomykal and Mendez, but not surprised. What's also great about this side is the depth on the bench. Llanez, Soto, Araujo, Ledezma, MacKenzie could all slot in seamlessly

I saw on another board that Ukraine had only one shot on goal and scored on that sole shot in the first half

I'm annoyed by the loss, but they did play well throughout the game and just couldn't break them down. Weah, Durkin and Dest were disappointing.

Comfortable 1-0 win vs Korea. Couple goals called back and a glutton of missed chances, they played within themselves a bit and a slower tempo.

Argentina will be the key game.

Yes Portugal was never under threat and in control the whole way but they were very lackadaisical throughout. You’d never guess this group was U17 and U19 back to back euro champs with the effort they put forth today.

No big deal though. It’s only the opener and the 3 pts were taken. I still consider them one of the favourites with France and Argentina who are both also in action today.

Pulisic is not age-eligible for this team. He was age-eligible for the last tournament, and he wasn't released. Dortmund had the German Cup Final during the tournament, and he might've not played anyway because he was already a National Team player.

It's hard to make too much of the loss to Ukraine, but we looked soft and had a lot of meaningless possession. Ukraine got their tactics exactly correct.

Straight red card to Saudi Arabia in the 13th minute. Probably deserved but too bad they were making a game of it thus far, even forcing France into taking a couple 2-3 cynical fouls while defending.

Argentina are not favourites they have 4/5 really good players but a not much else and a meh coach. Who left their brightest talent at home.

France is not having a great tournament IMO. The best offensive players aren't here and some are going to play the U19 Euro.
Still that defense can get them far.
Portugal has a more balanced team.

So France is winning 2-0 through Gouiri.
This team is tactically full of themselves. They're going nowhere.

Nigeria seem to have nothing to offer going forward. Terrible half for them so far.

And as I finish typing that, they generate a great scoring chance.

Very good opening half for the Americans. Nigerians were getting more chances to close out the half, but the U.S. still getting their chances.
