If I'm reading the timing sheets right, every team not named Williams is quicker in 2019 than 2018 after qualifying. Impressive engineering after the new aero rules.

Actually, Russell BARELY did better this year than what Massa did in 2017. Massa's time was in Q3, thus more grip, so a bit of apples-and-oranges, but still...

That midfield battle didn't disappoint though.

From Hulk to Raikkonen to Stroll to Kyvat to Gasly. That's the shit right there.

Ferrari while screwing up their own race (not that they had pace anyway) for Vettel, also managed to ruin it for Hamilton. Those dead tyres the whole second half killed his race, Bottas clearly wasn't even pushing and he was still pulling away from Hamilton.

Giovinazzi train not only helped Kimi's race, but dropped Perez & Norris down the order and promoted Stroll, Kvyat & Gasly.

Never really a fan of watching auto racing, but that Netflix series was great. I'm interested enough in the new season that I actually woke up to check the results from Australia.

I like the new Bottas. He's here to burn down your village. Literally. And the "to whom it may concern..." comment is priceless.

Merc says Hamilton's floor was damaged so maybe that's the performance difference today.

Congrats to Honda for getting back on the podium for the first time in the hybrid era.

Where and when could it have happened? Bottas was a lot faster than Hamilton from lap 1 so was it already damaged before the race?

Yeah Bottas pulled away instantly. It wasn't even gradual. Hamilton looked up and that Finnish dude was long gone.

You could maybe use it as an excuse as to why Verstappen was catching him though (and may have actually done so had he not gone off at the one point)

Well. That didn't age well.

Stroll gets off to a fantastic start...told he is nothing but a pay driver and won't be within a second of Perez. 7th fastest lap. Great job Lance.

I do not like seeing Williams look like a Forti...

To be honest, the Soft compound wasn't giving a huge advantage over the Medium compound (source : IMO) and Perez only had them while his fueltank was filled. Perez had no choice but to use Softs to start, and was thus stuck with the "bad" strategy, especially with the Giovinnatrain.

But Perez wasn't getting away from Stroll at all while he should have.

Wow. It's a miracle he could finish the race, right?

Actually... it probably meant some sort of unbalance that either made the car fickle or increased the tyre degradation rate.
That's not to take anything away from Bottas.

While he's definitely not my favourite driver I'll happily admit I'm a Stroll well wisher.

Stroll has always been fantastic on the first lap. I believe it was two seasons in a row where he led all drivers in terms of first lap overtakes. Obviously that's aided by the fact he often started at the very back but he still has to get by people. I think if he's able to qualify with Racing Point in the 8-14 range he should be a point contender a lot of the time.

I'm honestly curious to see the driver he really is and I suspect we haven't seen it yet. He's never winning a world title but I do think a lot of the haters will eat crow at some point.

People need to get over the pay driver thing. Hardly the first. Hardly the last. Having said that...he definitely comes across as unlikable at times.

Has anybody here been to the Montreal Grand Prix before? I have tickets this year and it's my first time ever going. How crazy does the area around the track remain once the race is done or does the crowd usually gtfo pretty quick? Debating if I should leave once the race is done or if I should stick around...hit up the casino...get a meal, etc.

...Actually, is that right before he switched to harder compounds? If that's the case, then it perfectly makes sense.

Right after, Vettel made his fastest lap with fresh medium tyres having started with softs. Stroll and Kvyat started with mediums and thus switched to hards much later, therefore their fuel situation was different. Perhaps more importantly Vettel's race situation eventually favored maintaining 4th so he was not pushing late in the race.

I went in 2017 and ran on the track afterwords and made my way to the casino. I’d recommend doing the same.

I started by turn 12 so if I had to do it again, I’d get closer to the podium before the race ends because I missed the champagne celebration.

Did you get grandstand tickets or general admission?

General Admission. Was a gift from the family so I felt bad asking for anything too expensive and I know somebody who went last year and said General admission was fine.

I'm not fully sold or convinced on general admission but I imagine it's more about the atmosphere than seeing all that much.
