Of course Devils and Rags win the lottery. Devs gonna roll with three first overall picks. f*** this. Weak draft though. Hughes and Kakko as top picks? Reminds me of Patrick and Hischier.

More like Matthews and Laine.

The kid whose compete and effort level away from the puck screams IDGAF? Pretty sure if the Canes draft him HCRB'A beats him to death with his own stick by the end of his 1st camp.

Kidding. Pretty sure Roddy says "nope" though and it gets AK a bright red "no not draft" strike-through on the draft board.
The biggest issue to me is AK being an OHL player. If AK could get 2 years under V in Charlotte, I’d take him. After scoring 51, he is gonna get stuck back in Juniors to work on his 2 way game. That is rough. How many other 50 goals scores go back to Juniors?

I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong, but if the statements about his commitment, compete/effort level is lacking, there is no chance the Canes take him.

Brett Leason 20 year old (2 year OA) - 6'5", 200 lbs right handed winger

Pronman mid-season report (#22):
Leason was a significant riser all season. He’s been the top player in the WHL and, as a third-year draft-eligible, worked his way onto Canada’s World Junior Championship team. He’s 6-foot-4, but also has an intriguing skill set. He’s not a highlight reel type of player by any means, but he has solid puck skills and can create offense with above-average vision. The biggest reason for Leason’s jump as a prospect is his skating. It’s improved from poor to potentially above-average as a pro. He’s big and strong, too, showing good puck protection skills.

Ranked #20-30 by nearly every outlet. While I'd love more of a high risk/reward pick like Bobby Brink, this guy sounds like a RBA system pick. Someone who has already worked his butt off to improve his main weakness and likely has a chip on his shoulder. Closer to NHL ready.

I could've sworn Hughes was a cant-miss generational prospect and now not only is he being compared to RNH but Kakko might be better?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Getting Hischier and Hughes/Kakko isn't like getting Crosby and Malkin, and you have to assume a team like NJ is going to rebound eventually one way or another. Same as we are.

The key is that teams like PIT and WAS fall off eventually, which opens a spot for us at the top. The nightmare is PIT scoring yet another top-10 all time player and reloading for another decade.

I've seen people ranking Prucha and Brule ahead of Crosby. So what?

So Svech is Crosby now? You said it was a weak draft with Hughes and Kakko, I'm saying both may be better than the guy we got, so what's the definition of "weak"?

EDIT: Hughes and Kakko* not Svech

While I haven't followed prospects in any detail, I did read up and watch some stuff on Hughes. I think if Jack Hughes was 2" taller, people would be saying he's up there with guys like MacKinnon (at least) in terms of his outlook if he stays a center.

He seems to be very skilled, a phenomenal skater, smart and he's done things at his age in the NTDP that virtually nobody else has done.

Jack Hughes is currently in Finland, and played a practice game with USA U18 against Finland in preparation for U18 WC.

Kaapo Kakko is skipping the U18 tourney for WHC and is currently in Denmark with the men's team.

That's good, but the USA does typically own this tournament and it's against Slovakia. I would still be very intrigued if Caufield slips to our spot. You would think he shouldn't, but sometimes size does still rule the day. It appears they didn't start Knight, who I'm intrigued by perhaps if we can move up from our early 2nd spot, so that's good that he's not the one to give up that many to them.
