Al Murray:

"Obviously, we know the family well," Murray said. "We know Cal. Nolan's been around our American League team a little bit coming to watch Cal. He's familiar to us. Stacy Roest, our (assistant GM, director of player development) has worked with Cal and been on the ice with Nolan as well because he lives in that area. It's an easy pick for us, but he's the guy we wanted. He fits a lot of things we're looking for. He brings all of the attributes we want."
Murray said Foote has a hard, quick release shot that is NHL ready. Murray thinks he still has room to get even bigger too.

"If you meet him and look at him, he's a tall guy but he hasn't really filled out yet so there's room to put on more muscle," he said. "With that strength is going to improve his skating. We see him just sort of scratching the surface right now."

Scouting Comments:
Has all the physical tools you could ask for: size, strength, speed and quickness... Good blend of skill and savvy, but in his 3rd full WHL season, he’s left us wanting more most of the year. -- Red Line Report

Strengths:
Safe prospect with a very high floor that should play in the NHL due to his bloodlines and hockey sense in all three zones. Plays a power game from the wing position with excellent size, strength, and a hard shot. Like his brother, he's positionally mature despite his age and plays a solid 200 foot game. Possesses a wickedly heavy shot that the Lightning believe is already NHL caliber.

Weaknesses:
There's substantial disagreement within the scouting community about Foote's skating and/or motor. Some attribute his lack of burst to a flaw in his skating stride. Others believe his skating is solid, but doesn't always apply himself and may be bored with the junior hockey level. The truth may be somewhere in between.

Projection:
Solid two-way third liner who can spot on a scoring line as a complementary winger.

Looks like Nolan might actually be the more impactful player faster than Cal even though he's younger. But, is early still.

He looks alot like Laine but even slower skater. I still think he is either total home run or bust.

His biggest problem in Dev Camp was his skating, but they had him doing some one-on-one work with Barb Underhill. Hopefully he'll continue to work with her. If she can bring his skating up to NHL level, his shot is certainly already there.
