Will be interesting to see how Dubas handles Marners/Matthews $$$ demands when they both out point Tavares this season

I could see Matthews signing quickly after Nylander gets settled...for whatever, doesn’t matter.

Marner I could see going into next summer as well if he’s unreasonable. Maybe they hope his connection to the city he grew up in keeps him from squeezing them too hard. But Marner will be just as difficult as Nylander when he scores 80-90 points.

Does it work?

I would keep lindholm and leivo and send marleau to robidas island, I still think he can play but that 6 million cap hit is a lot

Gards would have to be really terrible to only get 5. Like he could turn into Polak today and would still get more than 5 on the UFA market.

You're right.
Ultimately I think the leafs will have to choose between Ozhi and Gards. They wont be able to keep both.
Suspect they got Ozhi to replace him. It's his job to lose.

Oh great, another discussion about the cap. Cause we don’t have enough of that going on around here.

What compelled you to post here, then? If you don't like a thread, just scroll on past it. You can even ignore it digitally, by clicking the little "ignore thread" button when you open the thread.

Only UFA I would resign is Lindholm. Don’t want gardiner at 6+ million even if we manage to move marleau’s 3rd year

Toronto Maple Leafs - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Upcoming RFAs:
  • Matthews
  • Marner
  • Kapanen
  • Johnsson
  • Leivo
  • Gauthier
  • Ozighanov
  • Sparks
Upcoming UFAs
  • Gardiner
  • Hainsey
  • Par Lindholm
  • Marincin

No wonder Nylander thing is taking forever......

Unfortunately I think Gardiner is allowed to walk. Unless he signs for 5.5M or less, which is doubtful. Are there any middle pairing dmen in free agency coming up this off season?

From RFA's, I think Sparks, Gauthier, and Leivo will remain around the same salary, or the latter two could even be let go if there are other replacements from within.

Matthews and Marner will obviously be getting big pay days. IMO Johnsson and Ohziganov will get small raises for a couple seasons, but nothing too significant.

Kapanen they'll try to sign to a ~3 year bridge at a salary under 3M.

I think they'll let the UFAs walk except for Lindholm.

Just my speculation based on nothing more than opinion.;)

We have know D group next season...
  • Rielly
  • Zaitsev
  • Dermott
Our left side is strong, right side not so much. Dermott takes Gardiners spot, then we still have guys like Rosen, Borgman, Sandin fighting for that last LD spot. Not bad depending on how Dermott progresses. Right side is a big ? Top spot beside Reilly is a mystery then you have Zaitsev and maybe Liljegren
