In Conversation: CHL President Dan MacKenzie – CHL

Would you return to play in empty areas where you could quarantine your players and take care of the fans at that point? Is that a realistic option? In a normal world, no. Our model doesn’t really work because the importance of having fans come into our building is really important for the model. These are very unprecedented times and we’re going to look at all options to get back to play next season. We’re looking at those contingencies. The most important thing though when it's all said and done is it has to be safe for everybody involved. We’re going to work with the provincial and local health authorities in every market in all of the jurisdictions that we play in, and when they say that we're good to go, we’re going to be ready and we’re going to drop the puck.”

“On Wednesday evening (20/06/17), the Finnish government announced the complete lifting of assembly restrictions as of 1 October in the event that the coronavirus situation in Finland doesn’t worsen. The decision will also allow the start of the League Season 2020-21 from the beginning of October.”

“The league aims to play the full 60-match Regular Series, which would end at the end of March 2021. After that, the program would include Playoffs games until mid-May.”

“The league will confirm the start date of the season and publish the regular season program the week after Midsummer. Then the exact time of the spring 2021 World Cup will also be known.”

“Jarvela (Liiga director): We're relieved and grateful for the decision by the government, which will allow the plans for the coming season to be taken forward. There are several plans ready, and we’re now working on them together with the clubs for the coming season.”

He played 37 games (which I didn't expect honestly), why the heck would he not stay?

I think he will end up staying there, as well. It's just that he hasn't had a steady spot in the last three years. Since 2017-18, he's played SuperElit, Division 1 in Sweden, USHL, NAHL, and NCAA. And no word on if he will stay here or opt to join a European team.

Every other prospect, we know where they'll be next year.
