Sorry if someone else mentioned it, but I saw on NHL On the Fly that Nate Clurman had the game-winning assist for ND the other night. Also saw that Leivermann played but don't know if he factored into the scoring at all.

Cam Morrison is 2-7-9 in 8 GP, but I'll be fairly surprised if he doesn't just opt for free agency.

Are they still trying to use Boldy as a center? I think that's a huge, huge mistake.

Yup...

Boldy looks a lot better than the numbers suggest and his role is defensively slanted, but he's not having a perfect transition by any stretch.

Hmph. I don't see why they don't just keep him at wing. The times I saw him there (one time he was with Zegras, the other time Beecher) he was wildly effective as the LW. Unless they're having issues filling the depth chart at C there. But whatever, he ain't my prospect.

Prior to the National Team, Boldy was always a center. There was just too much center depth for him to get a shot there (even for Zegras there was too much depth most of the time). His two way skill set, size, and versatility all signal he should get a look. Plus I'm sure Minny wants him developed there and has worked with the staff to give him a shot at the position (these favors are asked for all the time).

Huh, interesting. I'm sure Minny will be thrilled beyond belief if he turns into the franchise center they've never had.

To me, even at his absolute best at center, you're talking elite #2C/low end #1C territory. Not a guy who looks the part of being a PPG player to enter in to that franchise center territory. I'd say that is a bit on the high end of a projection personally, but I do think he should get a look at center. FTR I think he'll end up a wing long term. They type of wing that can help out a center defensively and even fill in when need be... like a Landy that actually gets listed there. Now BC has a ton of center options, so if Boldy ends up struggling for a long period of time, they'll swap somebody else in there.

Ya Ranta and Annunen should play big roles for Team Finland. And Zhuravlyov will play a big role for the Russians.

Dont forget Byram either. He's basically a lock for Team Canada. Newhook is a fringe guy at this point. If I had to guess he wont make the team but if he can build on this past weekend in College and start taking some positive strides you never know. Dach being up in the NHL helps his case.

Either way we should have at least 4 and potentially 5 Avs players to watch this year. Should make for an even more enjoyable tournament to follow. I'm getting hyped for it already and its still well over a month out
WJC is my favourite hockey tourney.

He'll be a perfect replacement for Koivu, keeping them just good enough to never get a cup caliber #1.

Some Wild fans are complaining that Newhook looks way better than Boldy and mysteriously started producing when he was taken off Boldy's line.
Nothing against Newhook, but I am pretty sure Avs would've drafted Boldy if he was also available at 16th overall.

Not sure why you say that. From multiple reports Sakic loved Newhook. He was probably ecstatic that Newhook was there. Not saying it wasn't a possibility to draft Boldy had he been there, but let's not pretend that the Avs weren't super high on Newhook as well.

As good as Newhook might be, missing Caufield by one pick is going to haunt us.

I dont think the Avs would have taken Caufield at 16 if he was available.

Personally I would have taken Caufield at 5... But I'm not convinced the Avs were as high on him as we'd hope they were and I dont think they would be looking to make such a homerun swing.

Lol another broad statement. I'm not even going to explain why I disagree because I made numerous posts in the draft thread talking about it. But I'll put it this way I actually cheered when Montreal picked Caufield, because that meant we wouldn't be able to waste our pick on him.

Time will tell if I'm right ot wrong about Caufield, but I'm not particularly worried about it, fairly confident that it won't haunt us. Not saying he can't turn into a decent player, but I don't see him becoming a Superstar, which is the only way it would "haunt" us. Sorry I just don't see much more than a 2nd line PP specialist.

Plus I see Newhook as a potential future 2C who could produce similarly, points wise to Caufield, but with a more rounded game.

I could be wrong, but I don't see a huge difference from Caufield to Newhook in terms of NHL potential. Different players type of players, overall fairly close in talent.

Ehhhh, you'll be eating crow for that statement.

Caufield will score 40 goals a year in the NHL for a number of years.

I watched the first two periods of that game last night and though Byram was pretty clearly the best player on the ice. (CGF’s boy Pod was quite noticeable too) which is always a good sign in a game with this much star power.

good to hear he contributed offensively to the win after I turned it off too.

How will he score 40? Who will be his sidekick feeding him? Caufield is a product of playing with incredibly talented players. Played with team USA last year which was loaded. Now playing with Turcotte and ample PP time at Wisconsin. Until he proves he can score on his own, then I'm not convinced.

Right now all he is on my books is a 2nd line PP specialist, until he proves to be something else. If exceeds that good on him, I'm still glad we didn't draft him.
