baseball should go back to the 1990s national league strike zone. Games went MUCH faster when pitches a foot outside were routinely called strikes

Seems like MLS playoff Ratings have rebounded after a miserable start to the first round. MLS Western Conference Semi-Finals between LAFC vs LA Galaxy 1050PM start averaged 1.16m.
961,000 plus 202,000 OOH (Out of Home) viewers. Out of Home viewing will be automatically added by Nielsen in fall 2020. Should do wonders to NHL viewership in my opinion.

Some Out of Home viewing numbers from last nights National TV sports action. Keep in mind next fall Nielsen will automatically add these numbers into TV viewership numbers. So that should mean more TV revenue for networks and leagues.

The OOH number for Stanley Cup Game 7 outdid World Series Game 7.

Next Fall these numbers will be added in with TV numbers it will be like a new age for Pro US Sports Leagues. So we're talking about Stanley Cup Finals with average viewership of 8-13 mil from here on out.

Nationals clincher clobbers Caps clincher in local tv ratings:

    Nat’s averaged a 31.8 while the Caps averaged a 25.2. Nats peaked at a 39.2 and a mammoth 74 share.

DC rankings clearly goes 1. Skins 2 Nats 3-4 Wizards and Caps flip flop depending on who is winning more.

    ■ The World Series remains the No. 1 non-NFL program on television, as it has been for the past four falls.
    ■ Game 7 was the sixth-most-watched network television show since the NFL opened its season, and the most-watched non-NFL program of 2019, drawing 20 percent more viewership than even the highest-rated scripted show, “This Is Us” on NBC.
    ■ Game 6 and Game 7 of the World Series were the first non-NFL programs to crack the list of the 25 most-watched programs this fall.
Bottom line: Yes, baseball has its issues. But its ratings, especially for big games, remain the envy of every network and outlet that doesn’t have the good fortune of airing an NFL game opposite it.

Baseball has its issues, but declining TV ratings isn’t one of them - The Boston Globe

I'm just thinking.. imagine if it had been LAD/NYY?? The 2 biggest markets.. OUCH. if these 2 useless unpopular markets got close to 25M, who knows, maybe LAD/NYY might've gotten 35M

If this series went 5, it would've been the lowest rated series of all time.. The LCS were getting just a tad more than NHL was. People are weird. no one watches baseball or cares about it all yr.. but when it went to gm7, everyone tuned in like they care about baseball now..

They were getting 600k viewers in the reg season on weeknights.. just a bit more than NHL.

This is where media prioritizing leagues in hierarchy gets you. When networks constantly talk about something like NBA/NFL people are programmed to watch, because it feels like a big can't miss thing. Also baseball is a long slog of games, I know that its always been that way but the fact that it's fan base is rapidly aging is IMHO cause for concern but MLB should be good for the next decade as their TV deals go through the 20's the question is what happens after that?

Baseballs saving grace is it's a legacy sport people have been conditioned to care about the World Series, because the media tells people to care and that's it's important. I read somewhere not sure how true it is that the media networks all have shares of the top US leagues and besides TV ratings its in their best interest to insure these league likes NBA/NFL/MLB stay relevant. I'm assuming this is true for NHL and to a much lesser extent MLS.

You can't forget the storyline either. The Caps had a reputation of a great team that always faltered in the playoffs. The Nationals were a surprise champion who were pretty bad to start the season, and it was the first time DC has had a top MLB team since the 1930's. There was a big difference between Caps skepticism vs Nats intrigue.

Makes you wonder how it will affect the TV deals for both leagues. Baseball is far better for advertising due to the pacing and stoppages but if they are getting relatively the same amount of viewers as the NHL, is the MLB TV deal worth whatever multiple of the NHL deal it currently is? Will the NHL take this to the networks and say their deal should be worth as much?
