With the bulk of the free agent period over, this year's edition of the Florida Panthers appears ready to claw out the eyes of opponents next season. After missing the playoffs for the first time in over a decade in 2018/19, Florida's short re-tool appears to be over with the team focused on a return to the playoffs for the upcoming year.
This included the recent additions of Ron Hainsey, Alex Steen, Calvin de Haan, Riley Nash, and Jon Merrill through trade and free agency.
Here's how the Florida line-up looks at this current time.
Blake Coleman - Casey Cizikas - Nikita Kucherov
Jake Guentzel - Boone Jenner - Tom Wilson
Jesper Bratt - Mark Jankowski - Alex Steen
Ryan Donato - Cal O'Reilly - Riley Nash
Cam Fowler - Ron Hainsey
Colin Miller - Jon Merrill
Troy Stecher/Calvin de Haan - Travis Dermott
Matt Murray
Alex Nedeljkovic
"We are pretty confident in our lineup this coming year," said GM Brock Otten. "We have three balanced scoring lines anchored by one of the best players in the world in Nikita Kucherov. Our forward group will play as hard as anyone's in the league, with a real focus on guys who are dedicated to playing in their own end, just as much as the offensive end. And we have one of the better goaltenders in the world in Matt Murray."
Otten did confirm that the team did try to bring in a first line center this free agent period and through trade, but talks fell apart. As such, that will be the obvious target at some point this year.
"We won't be mortgaging the future that we have built up the last few years to make it happen. Cale Makar, Mortiz Seider, Trevor Zegras, Jordan Kyrou. Those guys are going nowhere. But our goal is to make the playoffs this year and be competitive in the East again. It's time to start another decade long playoff streak," continued Otten.
