It’s really a shame that Strome’s skating is as poor as it is, still went with him.

Strome getting seriously overlooked. If you have the Athletic there was a good write up about him the other day and the improvements in his skating working with McDavid, Draisaitl, Domi, etc. and some renowned skating coaches.

At this point, everyone is a projection.

Can Millwood take that step up this year?
Can Strome learn to skate?
Can Bunnaman improve his skating and use his big body to complement his goal scoring skills, and is he a center or LW?
Can Ginning grow into his frame and develop better body control and hockey sense?
Can Twarynski and Sushko show enough offense to go with their forechecking?
Is Sendyk's numbers an artifact of weak competition or is there more there than meets the eye?
Is Wylie's steady improvement enough to get past an AHL ceiling?
Can Laberge stay healthy and show why he was drafted high in the 2nd round?
Can Hain bounce back from mono and show a two way skill set?
Is Bernhardt flying under the radar or is he just meh?

The nice thing is we're talking players in the 20s in our player list (before you get to goalies), if only 2-3 pan out, that's still great news.

Oh for sure, but Strome is making strides and has probably the highest offensive upside of anyone outside the top ten. Not necessarily most likely to reach it and definitely not all-around upside, but if his skating is fixed he's an NHLer. I don't think anyone else on the list is one "fix" away from being an NHLer.

I think most of the players on that list are as close as Strome.
In fact, Strome needs more improvement, although focused on a single skill, than most of the players on that list.
For many of these players, it comes down to how far they can gradually improve before they flatline.

None are as talented as Strome (outside his skating), none are clearly as deficient as Strome.
Player development is highly uncertain, look at NAK, good size (compact), speed, but he's never quite progressed with his offensive skill set, he has a good shot, but a bit stiff in his skating, and questions about puck handling and vision. Is this his ceiling, or is he just a slow learner?

Five years ago all these guys would be competing for top ten spots, and we'd be crossing our fingers hoping they'd take that next step.
Now they're competing to end up in the 20s, and it's a bonus if any take that next step.

Fair enough. I've been voting for him for the last like five spots. Haha. Someday he'll make the grade. Some day...
