Ten 2018 eligibles that may suit up. Most will go top 10 but Russians Alexeyev and Kravtsov should go later. Same with the Swedes Lundestrom & Olofsson, albeit perhaps not late enough for the Caps as things stand.

As far as Caps prospects, it should just be Jonsson-Fjallby for Sweden and Geisser for Switzerland.

Fjallby should slot in as a middle-six LW on a Sweden team that I predict will win the tournament. Geisser should be the #1 on Switzerland's blueline.

Only 2 caps prospect?

Happens when you trade away all your draft picks. Also, Johansen is too old even though he was in the same draft as Fjallby. Don't know if the Capitals would have let him go regardless, nor do I know if he would've been selected for the team at all. He's probably better than Jake Bean but Team Canada loves him for some reason.

My son and I are off to Buffalo the day after Christmas to watch two games. USA v. Slovakia and Canada v. Slovakia.

Second time going to the WJC's, great time, really good hockey and the fans are great.

Yep and the fans make it. When we went in 2014 we got like $12 tickets to see the Swiss play Denmark (Siegenthaler was in that game) and the fans were insane. They never stopped cheering and chanting the entire game. We had so much fun.

Anyone who can go it is highly recommended.

Ive gone to some world junior games in the past. Last time was 2010. The year Carlson scored the game winner to beat Canada. I also attended some games in 1991. Lindros was the top player that year. Bure was also in that tourney and lead in goals. It was fun to watch.

Were you at that game, cause if you were I am really jealous!

Probably the best WJC game I have ever seen. Although Kuzy's hat trick and 4 point game against Canada in 2012 semi-final was pretty close. ;)

Most memorable WJC game of my life, remember telling my dad that this guy John Carlson was a Caps draft pick and he was going to be pretty good one day. Watching it with him over a bunch of beers and jumping up and down celebrating when we won after Carlson scored the winner. Epic.

That year Kuzya also had a 9 point game (3+6) against Latvia.

There are other games, that will no doubt compete for the best game ever of the WJC.

Like in 2013, when Russia beat Canada 6:5 in OT (bronze medal game) and that year the teams had their best players because of the lockout.

But for me, the best game, it was the 2011 final, also in Buffalo, Russia 5:3 Canada.:nod::nod:

"Right now, this is a thousand times worse than last year," said Canadian defenseman Calvin de Haan, referring to his country's 6-5 overtime loss to the U.S. in the 2010 WJC final

The whole tournament was a cinderella story for Russia.
After losing to Canada and Sweden the 2 first games, they needed to win against Norway and Czech Republic. The last game against Czech Republic it was already like a Round of 16 game.

Then in quarterfinals against Finland, 4-3 victory in OT, came back from 3:1 deficit in the last 4 minutes of the game (Kuzya and Kitsyn) and then Kuzya scored the winner.

In semifinals against Sweden, 4-3 victory in shootout. Kalinin tied the game with 1:27 left in the 3rd. 46 saves game for Shikin.

And the final against Canada (5:3). Down 3:0 after 2 periods (I even wanted to go to bed after 2nd period, fortunately I didn't do that lol), dirty hit against our captain Tarasenko, who will leave the ice in the 2nd. But he'll come back in the 3rd and score. BTW, great play from Kuzya on that goal.
2+0 for Panarin, 1+1 for Tarasenko, 0+3 for Kuzya in that period. Orlov and Zaitsev wear also on that team. (Orlov and Kuznetsov made the all star team too)
For russians, this game it's almost (for a little part it's even) on the same level as the IIHF World Championship final in 2008 against Canada in Canada. A 5-4 OT win. with Kovy who can't score during this tournament, even suspended for the semifinal, and he scores the tying goal at 4 and then the OT winner.

This was an amazing game as well. This tournament always produces some gems. The enthusiasm, the great hockey, the emotion, I look forward to this every year.

How friggin' amazing was Kuznetsov in the WJC's? A Gold, a Silver, 24 points in 13 games in those two years, and a swagger that was amazing to watch.

You know anything can happen during a game, and this is amazing, those guys are just kids.

And how thankful we and blues fans should be to canadians media for making slide Kuzya and Tarasenko with the "russian factor"

Imagine Kuzya wasting his career somewhere like in Florida:help:

Redoing that 2010 draft and how much higher would Kuzy (24) and Tarasenko (16) have gone? Holy cow a lot of teams screwed up. For me Tarasenko goes number one and Kuzy goes around five behind only Tarasenko, Sequin, Skinner and Fowler.

And FYI, GM's always take the best player available and worry about the logistics later. ;)

Canada takes on Switzerland tonight in pre-tournament play. They should get slaughtered unless their structure is on point. Aside from Geisser there's a couple of interesting draft eligibles for the Swiss in Eggenberger (!) and Kurashev.
