word on the street is that Yale Academy out of BC will be the team to beat. A lot of top talent heading there for next season

Alot can change in the next year. Are any Barzels ( TBD) Some were high on some lists and alot lower on others. Could be Hockey sense, size fear, etc

Are a lot going to get drafted from California? And if you could say some names that would be great!
Most of the very talented players are with the 03-Kings, However 5 left this season( All to Academies), and by next year most another 5 or 6 will be gone to Academies. The U15/U16 team (03) will be average with the Ducks,Gulls and Sharks in the next year or two.
Most of the Southern California players head to the NAHL or USHL in the past. But this past WHL Draft season had 30 PLAYERS (02's) which is alot.

1 Carson Lambos D Rink Hockey Academy – Carson played with the 2002 RHA team in the CSSHL this past season. He is an excellent skater( speed and agility), very physically strong, great shot. He has all the intangibles to be a top 3 pick.
2 Eric Alarie F Rink Hockey Academy – Eric plays one of the best north/south games. Huge body, great acceleration on speed, very hard shoot and protects the puck well. Along the wall Eric is very tough to handle.
3 Hudson Thornton D Rink Hockey Academy – Hudson is an offensive defenceman that likes to join the rush with his top end speed. He is tenacious, and likes the physical side of the game. Important for him being a dman he has a hard shot with a quick release.
4 Tyler Brennan G Rink Hockey Academy -Tyler is a big goalie that covers a lot of net. Not only his size, but his athletic ability allows him to makes saves when needed. Brennan’s size and skill seem to be a perfect resipe for a top end tender
5 Garett Zasitko F Rink Hockey Academy – Garett is a very good skater and a great 200 foot player, reflected by his +/- play. His hockey IQ and ability to see plays develop is one of the best at this age group. Zasitko has a very good shot that is very accurate.
6 Skyler Bruce F Rink Hockey Academy – Skyler is an offensive threat every time he touches the puck. He is a natural goal scorer. His strength is on the offensive side of the puck, with and accurate shot, sees the play develop and relatively good skater.
7 Mike Svenson F Eastman Selects – Mike is a big body, that skates well with speed and has a good shot. Once in stride Svenson is tough to stop as his skating and puck protection is pretty good
8 William Irvine D/F Pacific Coast Academy – William is a very big body that loves physical play. Irvine can protect the puck well and because of his size has speed and strength that is usually hard to handle for most defenders.
9 Connor Roulette F Winnipeg Hawks – Connor is primarily an offense thinking forward. He is talented offensively and can put the puck in the net. He has size, skates very well with a strong shot and likes physical play. He likes to drive the puck to the net.
10 Kyle Melo D Eastman Selects – Kyle is a solid stay at home dman. Melo finishes his checks, has good gap control which is attributed to being good skater with speed. If Melo continues to progress he will be one of the better dmen in MB.

From what I understand, no one really knows. It is highly hypothesized that they draft early because the threat of Junior A in western Canada is much higher than back east. Likely due to the BCHL and AJHL being pretty good in comparison to the eastern based junior A leagues.

WHL teams need more time to recruit as sending your kid hundreds of kilometers away may not be as desirable an option to all. The WHL is far more spread out than the QMJHL and the OHL. This is a large reason for the year earlier. Most would agree though that a midget draft would be ideal as that year from bantam to midget sees a lot of growth in some players.
Anyone know what has happened to Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Saskatchewan? They use to be iconic when it came to developing hockey players but I have not seen one player on any draft list's from the Notre Dame Hounds? They are in the CSSHL.

Sorry for the late reply I was away. Yes I have actually noticed lots of stuff about the Prarie Hockey Academy lately. Not sure how many top players they will attract this year with no Prep Team in the CSSHL?
ND only starts in Grade 9 so no 03's could have played for them hence why only 02's were listed. That is my understanding anyways and this year it will only be 03's playing Bantam for them.
I might be wrong but I feel it is more than just somewhat watered down here in BC. Don't get me wrong the Academies don't always choose all the best players but they do pick up most or a lot of them. Some associations don't loose a lot of players to the Academies and they do very well especially against associations that have lost 9 players at a time all from one age group.

At the 1999 Molson Open Ice Summit, 11 recommendations were identified for the future of Canadian hockey. Recommendation #10 suggested to:
"Promote cooperative efforts between school boards, local hockey associations and sponsors, to better utilize ice times and school facilities and move towards the development of sport schools."
In order to get the most out of arenas during weekday hours – when most minor hockey players are in school – Hockey Canada believes that a sport school program for hockey is required. Sport Schools sure are in full swing now!! Sad that they are so expensive for kids who's parents don't have enough $$ for their kids to attend.

TSCHIGERL is not only a great hockey player but according to my son who spent a week training and playing hockey with him, he is also a really nice guy. Wong, Stankoven, Chiasson, Sward and many others were also there. Fun to watch them all play against each other!!
