I still don't trust the pitching, but 60-29 looks damn impressive
The pitching is coming around. Honestly if the post season started today Sale, Porcello, and ERod are my 3 starters and Price is in the pen.

The bottom third of the lineup is an absolute mess however. They need to get rid of Swihart and get another bat that can hit off of the bench.

In more positive news, JD Martinez is on pace for 30 HR's before the break, and on pace for 50+ for the year. Dombrowski made the right call there.

Yeah, I concur with Jrull there

Sale, Porcello, and E-Rod is a good playoff rotation. Only Houston's is better IMO.

The bottom of the lineup is bad, but I don't know if it's something that we really can address. Vazquez is having a horrible year at the plate, but he's a great defensive catcher. I can live with him in the lineup if there weren't two other holes in front of him. If he doesn't improve a little, I think Leon sees more playing time down the stretch.

What they need at the deadline is a guy who can contribute and play either LF or DH. When the games start to matter, Benny is in center and Jackie is on the bench as a defensive replacement. Maybe they get a bat, maybe they found it already in Pearce (who is about as league replacement level as it gets with the stick. Which is better than JBJ).

I don't know what they expect out of Pedroia when he's healthy. Him being on the roster gives more options though, he can split time with Nunez, and if Devers hits a slump and needs a rest, Nunez can play there. I don't want to burn out Devers in his sophomore year, he's still a kid. That's another priority of the second half roster management.

My biggest concern is the 8th inning. Maybe Thorberg ends up finally being that setup man we traded for two years ago. But no guarantees. Barnes's numbers look fantastic, but in the 8th inning nursing a 1 run lead on the road in the playoffs, is Matt Barnes really the guy you want on the mound?

I like our middle relief though, Workman's killing it since returning to the bigs, Kelly is having a good year, Hembree isn't bad for what he is. If we get an 8th inning guy, that bumps Barnes to the 7th, which is much better. I'd look for a leftie specialist on the trade market, or just bring back Bobby Poyner who was doing great the first couple weeks of the season.

I think Beltre makes a lot of sense as a platoon guy at 3rd/DH depending on who is in the lineup. Holt can always play LF if they need.

Beltre gives them a proven bat who has been here before, can still probably give you 10 HRs from TDL through September, and give Devers/JD some time off if needed. Probably would be cheap to acquire as well.

I'm not sure the market for relievers will really materialize either outside of someone like Brad Hand from San Diego, if they decide to trade him.

Theres just too many teams out of it already to really create a seller's market this season. Dombrowski really needs to make another Ziegler type move.

At least he put them out of their misery. 6 runs scored with 2 out. And the 2nd out was a fielder's choice for yet another run. And JBJ bailed them out with bases loaded with Butera pitching. Could've chased the 2 out run record (at 13)

Vazquez broke his pinkie finger sliding into second. Looks like it’s Leon and Swihart catching I’d say for at least a month.

Jerry Remy ponders if the Red Sox could do the same with baked beans, clam chowder and lobster running around Fenway. :help:

This team is kind of f***ing amazing. And it's not like their record is fluky. It is exactly in line with their expected win/loss based on their run differential. Incredible.

And yet the Astros are even better. Good god, their Pythagorean record has them at 68 and 24! 68 AND 24!

Man this league is top heavy.
