I think Dawson Stairs belongs on the list. I'd put Brady Hunter there too, he had a real strong showing at Atlantics in PEI this spring.

NL has more '02 players than Hillier that should show up, it will be interesting to see what happens with their first year of Major Midget and how they look at the Monctonian and Icejam. Hillier made a move to St. Andrews College but he won't play minor midget with Simcoe like other NL kids in recent years (McKim, Gosse, Newhook, Power). Instead it seems he intends to play on the varsity squad this season.

I don't know Desnoyers but if you have him ranked above Lawrence he must be something special. Lawrence unfortunately injured his shoulder (separated I believe) at a Fredericton camp last week. Hope he's back soon, hate to see off season injuries like that, especially at that age coming up on draft year.

The goalie is Ethan Pearson, not Pearsons. He played for Fredericton not Saint John. And agreed on him - love the way he plays the position and competes for pucks.

Thx for the info,

What would be the expected round for Malcolm Bussey and Logan Carruthers to go right now? Haven't seen Bussey play in a while as he is at prep school I also doubt he would go the Q route because of football.

Correction - I did see Desnoyers at the Meltdown where he played on the Ice Warriors along with Provost and Bordeleau. Three of them were on the same line. He's listed as a D in the list above, but he was a Forward at the Meltdown and is listed as F on eliteprospects.com.

Provost and Bordeleau were both his equal or better in that particular tournament. Provost seemed to catch my eye the most.

I think I'd put Lawrence ahead of either of them but the whole top 5 is pretty strong.

#1 Desnoyers is a forward

#10 Patrick Guy - it's actually Patrick Guay

#15 Francis Langlois is a forward

#17 Cedric Chenier while awfully talented, he is barely 5'1, not sure how he is seen as a potential 1st rounder (as of right now)

#19 Hendrix Lapierre is simply too good to be ranked this low in my opinion, he will challenge for the #1 pick.

In my opinion Patrick Guay, Hendrix Lapierre and Charles Beaudoin will probably challenge for the number 1 spot, alongside the underragers who played Midget AAA (Poirier, Mercuri, Bordeleau, Provost and Desnoyers). I noticed you don't have Mercuri nor Beaudoin ranked.

Also, keep an eye on forwards Mavrick Bourque & Zachary Roy, dman Anthony Hamel and goaltender Antoine Coulombe.

If you need more info we published a list of our favourite 2002's on www.hockeyprospect.com at the end of last season.

So you ranked your favourites first ?

I don't agree with you assement of Chenier scoutman, while he has 1st round talent, he's tiny and from the guys in Gatineau" cest un petit cris"

Zach Roy is talented, and a good kid but lacks IQ and always has to go pretty.

Mercuri isn't as good as Roy, if Roy didn't play at Bourget he'd of been with Grenadiers Midget this year.

Choupani's attitude and size are somewhat questionable as is his skating.

This draft class is very strong. Lawrence is a talented prospect who would contend for #1 if he had more size and was not committed to BU which IMO might not mean anything..I've been hearing he mayl go to the Q..

Desnoyer has a mature look to his game, I think his ceiling is very high and will continue to develop into a great pro.

I'm a fan of both Quillan and Kabatay. They play the game the right way and compete hard, but I would like to see more production from Quillan... always involved in the play but never seems to have strong numbers. Time will tell. Love kabatays speed and tenacity, hounds pucks hard on the forcheck.. something all coaches love

A few other guys I think will be selected around this time are Dawson Stairs, Nick Savoie, and Ben Roode.

Love Savoies game. Has sand paper, really tough, moves pucks, finds lane and gets pucks through. Could smoothen out his skating, but overall a very good prospect. He would have been on my list

Also like Lukas Cormier. Lots of skill, mobility, size may be a concern.

Kind of funny that none of these player from Quebec BAAA were able to elevate their game against Montreal at the Dodge Cup...a team that had 3 coaches changes this year, and had to play with only 5 defs and 7 forwards the whole tournament. Man they looked exhausted by the end of the tournament. Maybe talent is not the only thing, or some names are just there cause they play with other big names. :D:D:D

All those players are pretty good indeed. Can't fit them all in the first round though.

The 2002 class is a good year. We'll see how they do in Midget AAA, how they improve. Most of the guys you named would probably be the next couple of names to be ranked for me. Especially Choupani, had a hard time keeping him off.

You are crazy if you have Larkin/Miron-Anderson/mcmillan/watt in here over Stairs/David
Basque/Savoie/Cormier.
Imo Top 3 atlantic 02 forwards are
Lawrence
David
Stairs
Also Desroches shouldn't be ranked higher then Basque.
This ranking for Atlantic is way off

The fun thing about this year QMJHL Draft at the top of the class is it's more wide open than last year, in September it was obvious in Quebec the top 4 was Lafreniere, Poulin, Pelletier & Parent and that's how the draft went down 8-9 months later. This year there's a lot of good talent & depth but there's no consensus at the top of the class. Another interesting thing, a lot of atlantic kids and good one are playing prep school this year. Lawrence & Desroches with Select Hockey Academy south of the boarder, David (Newbridge), Stairs (RNS).

As it been the case since 2014 we are covering it, already have tons of reports on the site from game reports & early bird tournament recap from the NBPEIMMHL & NSMMHL

Would anyone know where these 2002-born players are this year?

Marcus Gilpin (last year with Abitibi Bantam AAA)
Jonathan Gagnon (last year with Antoine Girouard Bantam AAA)
Lee Chiang (last year with Lions North Bantam AAA)

I thought they were pretty good players, definitely candidates to be drafted into the QMJHL. But I can't seem to find anything on them this season.

Thanks.
