It's definitely a risk because of his age. The Seahawks appear to be in a weird place right now and I'm not sure what to expect next season. I guess they're trying to retool/rebuild on the fly while still trying to be competitive because they've got one of the best QBs in the league?

It is a weird place, because they fully expect to get get back into the postseason but it hinges on a couple of unknowns. (Running game, young bucks on D filling the roles of the departed). They still have plenty of talent.

But with a set amount of money to go around, have to be really careful with who gets those extensions because Wilson, Wagner and KJ Wright all need to get extended as well.

Hey Randy - don't screw this up. :thumbu:

from nflcommunications.com:

NFL Senior Vice President of Labor Policy & League Affairs Adolpho Birch notified Randy Gregory of the Dallas Cowboys today that he has been reinstated to the NFL on a conditional basis.

Gregory may join the Cowboys at training camp and participate in meetings, conditioning work and similar activities. Once arrangements have been confirmed regarding Gregory’s clinical resources in Dallas, and subject to continued compliance with the terms of his reinstatement and all aspects of the NFL-NFLPA Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, he will be permitted to participate in all activities, including practices and games.

Gregory has been suspended without pay for violating the substance of abuse policy since January 2017 following a suspension of 14 games during the 2016 season.

Yeah, not sure what to expect from the Seahawks next season.
The stagnant issues with them right now is RB, Offensive line, Secondary and the Defensive line.

As long as Wilson is healthy, the Seahawks are never out of it but I'm really curious to what Carroll and Schneider have to offer this year.

Arizona suspends GM Steve Keim for 5 weeks as a result of his recent DUI.

from nfl.com:

After pleading guilty to extreme DUI earlier Tuesday, Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim found out his punishment from his employer.

The Cardinals suspended Keim for five weeks and fined him $200,000, which will be donated to the Arizona chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the team announced.

Keim was arrested on July 4 on suspicion of driving under the influence in Chandler, Arizona, leading to Tuesday's guilty plea. Extreme DUI is defined as blood alcohol content of .15 or more. Keim's BAC was .193, according to a Chandler Police Department report.

"As stated at the time of the incident, this behavior is indefensible and completely unacceptable," the Cardinals said in a statement. "While Steve has accepted full accountability and responsibility for his actions, that does not diminish their gravity nor the severity of the consequences that result from them.

"Those who work within the National Football League -- particularly those in leadership positions -- bear a greater responsibility and are held to a higher standard than simply a legal one and we feel that these measures are reflective of that."

While serving the five-week suspension, which is effectively immediately, Keim is barred from the team's facilities and is prohibited contact with the team. He cannot return to the Cardinals until he completes counseling and evaluation, along with a DUI education course. Keim will also participate in DUI awareness and education programs within the community.

During Keim's absence, his duties and responsibilities will be handled by multiple members of the personnel staff, the Cardinals said in a statement.

Great video showing just how bad Shula was as a coach and how underrated Cam and McCaffrey are. I'm optimistic about the Norv hire, and a better receiving group (and hopefully a healthier one) should take some load off the run game. I still hate that they didn't keep Norwell, but maybe this will force them to get a bit more creative at times.
Cam deserves blame. Same with Carr in Oakland.

Cam does what he can. He's not always being put in a position to succeed with the playcalling. Shula kept dialing up long passes when they had two guys who couldn't separate. Now they have guys for what the want to do and a guy that will allow Cam to do what he does best, which is read the defense and make accurate, shorter throws. He's inaccurate at times, but he's very good at a lot of other things.

"The terms of the contract, reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter to be $80 million over five seasons, seems a bit ridiculous. It makes Cooks the fourth-highest paid receiver in the NFL in terms of annual salary that ranks him third in total cash. For a player that both Sean Payton and Bill Belichick traded, this seems to be a hefty price. Given that the Rams have yet to extend reigning Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, many were thrown for a loop." Twitter reacts to Brandin Cooks' ridiculous contract

Report: Final Le’Veon Bell offer had $10M fully guaranteed

He had spurts of productivity in New York, but yeah he was largely ineffective. This is probably just going to take touches away from Kamara and Ingram, if he even makes the team.

We see this every year when new contracts get signed so it's pretty normal but it's also strange to see Cooks, Watkins, and Landry as the 4th-6th highest paid WRs in the league.

OBJ will get more than all of them, Green probably gets taken care of next offseason, and the Falcons might cave and re-do Julio's deal as well so those guys will already start to move to the back end of the top 10 soon.

They probably should have drafted better the last few years. Roster is pretty damn thin.

The bubble will burst. The receiver is the next position to go the way of the running back.

I'm just curious, why do you think that? Receivers generally have a much longer shelf life than running backs, as you probably know.

Because it's a position of luxury in the modern NFL offense which is predicated on match ups and specific skillsets. Outlier talents will happen but as time goes, there will be less money dedicated to the position. A #1 receiver isn't as important as the media and fans play up.
