Yzerman for me. Built a powerhouse through good trades and terrific drafting. I like Poille and all but he's been there 20 years.

Obviously Benning has no chance here but he should still be in the poll.
Could only list 30 options for some reason, not sure why so had to exclude one option and figured it out at the bottom so figured the Winnipeg and Washington GMs would get more votes in the first round so decided to exclude Benning. He will be in the next one as therell be 30 choices, not 31

Teams cant be considered contenders because they dont win enough in the playoffs. - but GMs like Poile and Yzerman are heralded for never winning a cup

What kind of reasoning is this??

I voted Cheveldayoff. Great drafting in Winnipeg, and most of the few trades he's made have been good. Unlike the situation for Stevie Y, Chevy doesn't benefit from having a destination city where lots of players want to go to. Somehow Chevy has built a winner in a place that players are most likely to refuse to go to. After that Yzerman. And Poile is great too, but I count the Seth Jones trade against him.

How do you rank Poile or Yzerman over Rutherford?

Is the goal to build the best team on paper? Or win Stanley Cups?

Yeah Brian Burke and Peter Chiarelli >>>>> Yzerman and Poile am I right guys?

Do you normally make extreme comparatives?
Not sure why you're calling it an extreme example. Both Burke and Chia have won Cups recently as GMs. Yzerman and Poile never have. By your reasoning, Burke and Chia are both better than Yzerman and Poile.

Oh wait ... are you saying there's other ways to evaluate GMs than just number of Cups won??? Gasp.

Who hires the coach and trades for the players?
The gm obviously. But once the playoffs start there is nothing a gm can do. At that point It is 100% on the coach’s and players to get the job done. Gms that have assembled great teams with great coaches don’t always win the cup. Sometimes even bad gms win cups.

Yes, but who brought them in the first place? You guessed it, the general manager. And yes, there are great teams that don't win Cups - hence why Poille and Yzerman are held in such high regard.

As if Chiarelli and Burke are even with the teams they won the Cups with still

Yes, it was a horrible and extreme comparative
