tyler wright set a precedent last year (values size), wouldnt be surprised to end up with Bouchard, Dobson, or Tkachuk if we're picking outside of the top 3. Last summer he did say he's focusing on skilled forwards this year so who knows tbh.

One draft is not a precedent. What 'precedent' did he set when he drafted 6'0 160 lbs Hronek or 5'9 Saarijarvi?

Big game for our draft. If PHI gets a point tonight vs, NYR, they'll reach the playoffs as a WC & we'll get a 3rd rounder. If FLA wins the last 2 games (BUF, BOS) and PHI loses in regulation, FLA will take their place

Just another skilled RH defenseman I'd love for them to draft. I like that he reads the play and bails on his pinch if he thinks it's too risky. I didn't see a lot of that from Hughes during the WJC.

He looks okay in the first half of the game, but he's really dangerous in the second half of the game when his teammates remember that he exists.

and just think: this kid is 8 months younger than Hughes.

Even if this guy busts as a D, I think he'd be a great winger. That is what I would tell myself as I stood up to walk to the podium. Seriously.

I like the top9 as much as anybody, on the other hand I am a little bit worried how these Ds after Dahlin will pan out in the future. It's mainly due to the fact how hard it is to project Ds. I mean which one will be the best from the pack after Rasmus and not just a specialist in one situation. We badly need our Hedman, Doughty-type of all-around Dman. Which one can be something similar to the aforemntioned Ds? It's really a crapshoot. I know we need luck too, but also have to select the right guy in 5-8 range. So all in all it's pretty hard for me to rank them. It's kind of weird.

Btw when was the last time the 1st round (especially the top15) was so much loaded with Ds?

I’ve gone back and forth a lot, but I like the bigger defenseman (Dobson + Bouchard) better than the smaller guys (Hughes + Boqvist) by a hair this year. So if Wright goes for the bigger guys, I will not be mad at all. Dobson is so smart, and Bouchard is so good offensively. I could see either one logging big minutes as a pro.

Ive also warmed up to Tkachuk quite a bit. Not my favorite guy in the top 10, but he’ll be a good prospect for someone. Went and looked at his brother’s thread, and I defended him quite a bit. He’s turned into a good player, and Brady is a similar player but bigger and faster. Helped me look at him from a different POV.

But like you said, maybe they go a different direction this year. I like the smaller defenseman too, even Ty Smith. Lots of good options this year.

What would it take to move up? Say we get 4th pick, and say Buffalo gets 1st. Do they trade at all? Like our fourth pick+VGK first rounder+2nd+AA to move to 1st? Dahlin for us? Is that a somewhat comparable deal or am I living in lala land.

Dobson is the most likely to end up as that all-situations #1D. Pietrangelo is the best stylistic comparison I've seen. I personally would prefer Boqvist as I think he's got the skill to be an elite offensive D that puts up a ton of points while dominating possession, but Dobson is the guy if you want a prototypical all-situations 1D.

We can't end up at 4 (splitting hairs), but we'd have to pay way more than your proposition. I'd say the cost would resemble Larkin+ 5OA + VGK 1st + 2nd + Cholowski. Even that might not do it. There's a reason the pick has no chance of getting moved.

So we either end up top 3 or 5-8 then correct? My bad I misspoke, just trying to make somewhat of a proposition. That's quite the payment haha.

Yeah that's correct. We'll probably end up at 6, but it all depends on luck. Grab your rabbits' feet, bury a loonie in your backyard, perform ritualistic goat sacrifice, pray or whatever nonsense you do for luck. I'll be right there with you.

And it's a huge payment. I wish acquiring Dahlin was realistic but I think it'll take a lottery win. The best hope of it that I can see would be if we got 2nd overall and 1st was someone with great D already but no wingers. Then I could see a Svechnikov+Svechnikov+VGK 1st type deal making it happen.
