Need to be careful with Kravtsov. He’s a kid who just turned 20, not much education, his Mom was with whole time in Stamford, he was destined for NY according to all the preseason hype and how finds himself is lonely Hartford. It’s not like has a day job, so what does a 20 year old Russian kid with limited English do all day in Hartford?

Imagine being 19-20 years old and sent to Moscow to play hockey yet you’re stuck in a lonely City like Hartford all day and not speaking much Russian.

It’s a lot

I know what you're getting at, but found it quite amusing you compared Hartford to Moscow. :D

Because they’re Russian they all know each other intimately? Cmon now.

What possible incentive is there for, say, a Shestyorkin to give two craps about Kravtsov? Igor has his own domestic life and is preoccupied with chasing his own NHL dream. Why should he care to babysit some lonely 20 year old from redneck Chelyabinsk?

Now if an established vet is asked to do as such, take some young kid under his wing, show him the NHL ropes on a daily basis (see Gonchar/Malkin) yeah, that’s understandable. That's par-for-the-course. But that’s not the situation here.
What's Kravtsov gonna skype Buchnevich (who I don't think he knows very well) from Hartford? "Hello Pasha, speak with me. I'm lonely. We're Russians in this together!!!". Yeah, no.
Well, Buch is American, as everyone knows.

What should Krav do in a "lonely city" where he doesn't speak the language? Well what any 20 yo would do. Spend 15 minutes with Rosetta Stone before becoming totally frustrated. Switch to TV sitcoms to learn english. Play lots of xbox, watch lots of youtube vids, and most likely porn (the universal language) and lots of masturbation...lots of masturbation...

Did you not say Kravtsov has an easier transition than that of the poster you replied to? That's unquantifiable.
I mean Kravtsov specifically said he and Hartford's staff weren't always on the same page in terms of communication. Basic communication is a fundamental, something my boss went to extraordinary lengths to ensure when during my first job in NA. And I'm average Ivan, not some million dollar hockey asset.

I brought up Shipachyov because Vegas provided him nothing. He told of an instance when his young child woke up sick. The family, completely out of their element, was forced to drive around Vegas at 3am hopelessly searching for anything resembling a pharmacy that was open. Eventually they were pulled over by the cops who, through sign language, were able to understand the situation and help them out.
Speaking as a parent, not being able to help a sick child is ****ing terrifying. And Shipachyov was a guy with a multi-million dollar NHL contract having to deal with such nonsense.

Being an asset for a wealthy corporation (in all walks of life) doesn't guarantee you'll be provided adequate resources for assimilation. Incompetency knows no boundaries.
Why didn't he just use Google translate.

Carp went to Connecticut too. Vince went there a few days ago.

“Absolutely he’s seen as a top prospect,” Knoblauch said. “He’s on our first line. He’s contributing. His point totals have been maybe just moderate to start, but I think in the next month or so he’s going to start to break out and score more. One, score more just from him shooting more often, because he does have a good shot, but I think also, between him and his linemates, they’ve been a a little unfortunate. More pucks that should have been going in but haven’t. So I think that’s the reason for his modest goals and assists output. But I think in the next month, that’s going to catch up and you’re going to see some real production from him.”

Drury speaks with Knoblauch and his staff daily. He gets to most Wolf Pack games, and when he doesn’t he watches them on video, as do Davidson and Gorton. They know exactly what’s going on with the team … and with Kravtsov.

“He’s been really good (since returning),” Drury said. “On ice, off ice, he’s doing everything we’ve asked of him. I think his play, week by week, is getting better and better. Figuring out how to play on the smaller ice, how to play a different style of game than he’s played his whole life. So I think a lot of very positive signs since he’s been back.”

9th overall pick playing on 1st line in AHL and barely producing any points. I would be concerned, very concerned.
Smh. This is not NHL 20. There is a lot of context that you fail to acknowledge. This kid has had an up and down year, some of his own doing, at just 19 years old. He has come back and is working on the other aspects of the game that the staff has asked of him. His talent and raw skill will always be there. He can lean on that when he is a more developed player. It is only beneficial for his path to being an NHLer to be more rounded. He will be fine and I would bet he has a much better 2nd half here. The points will come.

Idk why that tweet mentions detours. Hasn't he just excelled at everything all season? He never experienced anything that could even be remotely considered a cause for concern!

Son this is the NEW hf. We dont DO reasonable or logical concerns around here. Get on the hype train and dont question anything

I honestly am not even worried about his production or anything else right now bc overall reports are good but I'm not going to invalidate anyone who might still be a bit tepid bc he did have all those issues where...

I mean VK is great! Go VK! Smh what a stupid concern you have!!!

next up, Barb Underhill.
Funny sehe gets mentioned with video. I read an article that her power skating method was based on watching video of Gartner, breaking his stride down biomechanically and then try to get her students to incorporate it into their own skating. Makes sense.

really? that seems weird because everyone's body is different. I'd with leg length, hip width, boot size, balance, overall max leg strength, and balance of all leg muscles all play a factor. It would be silly to prescribe one solution to all players.

I guess the premise is that Gartner's stride was the closest to perfect, so anything you can assimilate into your stride would make it better. What I read wasn't from Barb Underhill, it was someone trying to give a synopsis of what she does. There must be more to it than that. I can't imagine how many reps it would take to replace 15+ years of muscle memory.
