Only willing to make a deal around the 9th + another 1st round pick to move into the top 5. If the price is higher then forget it. Rather keep more picks and increase our odds of finding solid players

Posting this again since Gorton said they're looking to move up.

Here's a list in recent years as per CapFriendly.
2016: NJD trades #11 to OTT for #12 and #80 (3rd round)
2012: BUF trades #21 and #42 (2nd round) to CGY for #14
2009: NYI trades #16, #77 (3rd round) and #182 (7th round) to MIN for #12
2008: NYI trades #5 to TOR for #7, #68 (3rd round), and #37 in 2009 (2nd round); NYI trades #7 to NSH for #9 and #40 (2nd round)
2007: STL trades #9 to SJS for #13, #44 (2nd round), and #87 in 2008 (3rd round)
2005: ATL trades #8 to SJS for #12, #49 (2nd round), and #207 (7th round); ATL trades #12 to NYR for #16, and #41 (2nd rounder)

With our pick being 9th OA, and we want to trade up, this should be the realistic price (with a possible 7th rounder here and there):

8: our 3rd rounder
7: NJ 2nd rounder
6: our 2nd rounder
Anything higher will probably involve one of our late 1st rounders then.

Good work man. It’s nice to see recent trades that happened on draft day.

Still a little irked that the Rangers didn't move up. For all the league talks about how they don't want to reward tanking, no team has resisted the tank more than the Rangers over the last 50+ years. Drafting #1-3? Three of the most frequent tankers in the league.

It does suck that the Rangers can never seem to catch a break.

36.8% to stay at 8, 36% to move down, guess which we get? Shocker.

This is what the team gets for not trying to tank a little harder.

Oh well. If we are gonna win a lottery I’d prefer next years anyway, for Jack Hughes.

To OTT: NYR 2018 1R pick (9 OA)
To NYR: OTT 2018 1R pick (4 OA), Bobby Ryan 50% retianed

Rangers get Zadina
Ottawa gets either Dobson (who replaces Karlsson when he leaves) and saves $15m

Not enough to take on that contract. 4 and Ryan at 50% for Boston’s pick instead :)

I think your math is a little off. 20% chance to move up. 37% chance to stay. We had a better chance to move down than to move up. Either way, we have no luck. Well, no good luck.

Would a team trade their first round pick when they are hosting the draft?
Yes?

Never understood this argument. Much bigger buzz from a draft day deal than a mid-round pick, IMO.

And more to the point, even if I’m wrong about the relative newsworthiness, so what? It’s derelict management to prioritize 1 day of offseason PR over an opportunity to improve your team.

Ottawas must surrender their 1st round pick next year. They have to fear the possibility losing Karlsson regardless of their confidence in keeping him. Thus far, the Duchene trade looks really bad as well. Mark Stone is due a big pay increase, ditto for Cody Ceci. They have the 4th overall, but they could use more than that. I see them as a prime target for a trade.

4th overall + Bobby Ryan for 9th overall or 4th overall for 9th overall + 30th/31st overall (Tampa/Boston pick).

Then

10th overall (EDM) for Zuccarello + 39th overall + 71st overall.

Spooner + 48th overall for TJ Brodie

Montreal definitely is a prime suspect for drafting Tkachuk early. Zadina could certainly be there at 4. If he isn't, take Boqvist. Kravtsov/Bokk/Noel could likely be there at 26 (our other pick is guarantee to be there based on the loser of the Tampa/Boston series).

Out:
9th overall
31st overall
39th overall
48th overall
71st overall
Zuccarello
Spooner

In:
4th overall - Zadina/Boqvist
10th overall - Farabee/Dobson
TJ Brodie

26th overall - Kravtsov/Bokk/Noel

It stinks we didnt win but a good player will be there
One of Hughes/Donson/Wahlstrom will fall to us if Bouchard continues to rise and Tkachuk goes as high as people say he will. Its just up Jg and Gordie to take a good player
I dont see the point of moving up if it'll cost more then a second. If anything id prefer for us to move up the Boston/Tampa pick to the late teens early 20s

Zucc to Oilers/Stars/Panthers makes sense for the #10/13/15 pick.

I think with retention Rangers would have to add the Devils #2 for the Oilers pick. Don't think they would have to add much for the 13 or 15. Maybe one of their #3s.

Pick 9, 13, 28ish and 30/31 possibly. Draft Dobson, Kotkaniemi, Kaut, Merkley.

Zuccarello + DeAngelo + 70th overall for 10th overall (EDM)

9th overall + 31st overall + 39th overall + 70th overall for 4th overall (OTT)

48th overall + Spooner/Namestnikov for late 1st (27-31)

Carolina takes Zadina for his chemistry with Necas, Montreal takes Tkachuk because they see him as a Center and really like him (I've read some stuff about this at least) - we get Svechnikov at 4th overall. Farabee goes in the Top 9 and we get one of Dobson/Hughes at 10th overall. Kravtsov/Noel/Bokk/Samuelsson with our 2 late 1sts.

Wahlstrom is a tsn guess

I personally rather draft all 3 firsts instead of packaging

I think I agree. Historically, it seems like once you get past the top 3 it's pretty much a crapshoot up until the 10th pick or so. Never has this been the case more than in this draft where I can easily see a guy like Boqvist or Wahlstrom turn out to be the better player than whomever is picked at 4 or 5.

Sucks we moved down, but there will unquestionably be elite talent available at our spot... just can't blow it this time.

Chytil is ranked higher than Andersson in some boards . Perfect example
