I mean it was so obvious even the Rams CB admitted it lol...but I think Payton was too focused on that during the game tbh. It's one thing to harp on it in the moment but still harping on it to the refs at the end of regulation is a bit much. They still had their chances to win and fubared it.

Saints also have plenty to blame themselves over. They could have won this game despite the blown call.

I really do hate the OT rules in the NFL. Sudden death works for hockey and soccer. It doesn’t for football.

But soccer doesn’t do “Golden goal” any more. Extra periods and then shootout in the World Cup.

Alan “the horse” Ameche “greatest game” was ‘58 season I think. If so, 60 year anniversary. I remember that game (7 years old). That and Bill Mazeroski’s 7th game walk off World Series winner (still the only game 7 walk off) made me a sports fan
I do believe.

The Saints certainly still had chances to win, but one of the worst officiated plays in NFL history has to be extremely deflating.

Soccer doesn't have true sudden death but I agree that it's an absurd concept for football.

Personally, it couldn’t possibly be worse than last years Philly vs New England Super Bowl. At least this year I have a team to root for to beat one of the unbareables.

Except that team(Rams) has about as much chance to win the SuperBowl and Beat the Pats as Drew Stafford has of winning the Rocket Richard. :skeptic::skeptic::skeptic::skeptic:

This is going to be a one-sided Beatdown in the SuperBowl.

A f'n coronation ONCE AGAIN for the Patriots and their smug fans.

And once again, I'm not watching the SuperBowl this year.

Why can't Brady just retire and F off, already??? :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Let's have other teams start winning the Big Game for a change.

Rams have a good chance. Pats are not that good if you can get some pressure straight up the middle - from the tackles - on Brady. He’s never been too comfortable against a strong inside rush and now less comfortable than ever with it. Key to the game for the Rams. Disguise the defenses, play man and jam the receivers, push up the middle - can make it a very tough game.

Aaron Donald will reek havoc.

The Patriots are going to win. Maybe Brady will just retire and go out on top. I doubt it though, I think he's the sort who wishes to keep playing and make his QB records as untouchable as possible.

Bad calls are screwing up NFL football.

Much of it is self-inflicted.

For instance, these new, low, "Roughing the Passer" standards and "QB hit to the head" rules are genuinely absurd. The NFL is putting its' refs in a terrible spot.

How do they not have a chance? Their defense has so many playmakers on it that if anything they can hurt the Patriots. Not to mention some dynamic options on the offensive side of the ball.

I think you may be right as far as him keeping on playing.

But I think he'll keep playing just to screw Jets fans and anyone else in the AFC East division.

And to the others here in this thread that say the Rams have a chance?

Well....if they have a chance, then *I* have a chance at winning the PowerBall Lottery.

Does that mean I will? Nope. And neither will the Rams(winning the Superbowl).

I would gladly eat a monster helping of crow if the upset happened but I'm not holding my breath.

Can you imagine begin that Chiefs lineman?

Brady throws a game-ending INT, your team's about to go to the Superbowl (and win), and instead you're going home because you lined-up 8 inches offside.

Probably comforted by the fact that him giving Brady a free play is the only reason the pick even happened.

I will be curious to see how the Super bowl is officiated afte the Saints Rams debacle. NO has a very passionate fan base and that drum will be beaten long and loud all the way to the day the game is played. There will be some sort of action taken behind the scenes but it’s hard to know how the part time refs will interpret their new directives in real time.

The NFL better hope the Patriots win, because there's already so much "tainted Superbowl" talk now that if the Rams win there will forever be an unwritten asterisk by it, whereas if the Pats win, most people (other than Louisiana folk) will forget about all this within a season or two.

I don't know. The general public still remembers the tuck rule.

It was so ridiculous that I'm surprised that ref hasn't been fired yet.

Maybe "remembers it" was the wrong term. Won't care as much about it though- definitely.

It's just another in a string of scandals/bad looks for the NFL. Over time it will be one more incident that turns some fans away and they are hard to replace in today's world. Kids have a lot more available to them than football on Sundays if they even watch a television anymore and with the declining participation in youth football the percentage of youngsters that will pay attention to the NFL in the future is shrinking. If you like football you should care about this.

"tainted", my ass.

While the Non-call was bulls--t, it wasn't what ultimately determined who won the game.

The Saints :

1.) Let a 13-point lead evaporate.

2.) Chose to throw the ball late in the 4th qtr instead of running it to force the Rams to use their timeouts to stop the clock prior to kicking the FG

3.) Won the coin toss in OT but Drew Brees(Future HOF'er) THROWS A GAME-ENDING INTERCEPTION! (or at least it was Game-ending 'cause it then allowed the Rams a FG try almost right away)

Blown calls are, unfortunately, part of the game.

That said, however, a team needs to overcome that and the Saints had 2 Opportunities to do just that :

1.) Stop the Rams (Get a 3-and-out; 4, in this case) from tying it up after the Saints made it 23-20 in their favor

or

2.) Have Brees do what Brady did in OT against Kansas City and that's march down the field and get a game-winning TD.

Neither of which happened 'cause the Saints couldn't stop a nosebleed and Drew Brees was not clutch at all as he threw a soul-crushing INT in OT.

When you look at it from this overall Context, the Rams won this game FAIR AND SQUARE.

Actually, given the wrong call, it did 100% determine who won the game.

Unless you somehow believe the Saints were going to miss a field goal that was 13 yards shorter than an extra point, with the game clock expiring to boot.

I dont care if the Saints had eleventy-billion chances to win the game AFTER the botched call and blew them all, that is irrelevant to the fact that had that call not been blown, the game ends in a Saints' victory and they dont have the "opportunity" to blow said eleventy-billion chances to win the game.
