I tend to think the Jack Adams is a joke about 50% of the time, i.e. when it goes to a coach who makes the playoffs against all predictions, rather than who did the best job of coaching. And Gallant's case certainly includes this element. But he was absolutely deserving. He rounded up a rogue's gallery and had them playing for the crest in front, from game 1 to game 82. He did it with a system that played to his player's strengths. It's down right impressive how much he got out of his team, a team many people had written off after the expansion draft. He really was the best coach in the NHL this year.
