This year is Alfie's second year of eligibility. He could be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.

He's rated highly vs. his cohort in a lot of different aspects.

Leading Scorers per Draft Half Decade (in order of points, bold indicates HHoF'er with FA's merged into appropriate eligible draft range):

The voting committee still has a bunch of former Leafs on it right?

Won't get in on the first ballot. HHOF usually reserves that honour for the cream of the crop.

No usually not. The one thing that Alfy has going, though is a his eligible class this year. The only first year eligible guy I could see going before Alfy is Teemu Selanne. There are other guys who could well go in, Recchi, Kariya, Andreychuk, but I wouldn't write Alfy off 100%.

???

One of the things Alfredsson has going for him is he is Swedish / Euro and nowadays everyone wants their equality and token diversity.

Which is covered by Selanne this year. But ya.

Sundin was first ballot, so to me Alfie should be too.
I legitimately don't see them as having that different of a career (personally feel Alfie was better, but maybe that's the homer in me).

But as pointed out... probably not.

I think that the stronger argument is pointing out how he did against players he was drafted with, who faced the same dead puck era issues... not guys with inflated stats who played a bunch of years from 1981-1995.

Sort some of the tables at the top of the page to see how high Alfredsson ranks in every measure. There really aren't many that he isn't top-5 in. The league inducts an average of about 1.5 forwards a year. They would have to completely ignore that entire decade to leave Alfredsson out.

I ran this for something else, but it's crazy to look at:

Player|30+G|70+pts|0.50GPG|1.00PPG|T-20 Selke|T10 G|T10Pts|0.50GPG PO|1.00PPG PO
Alfie|4|10|2|8|5|3|3|5|6
Sedins|4|15|1|7|0|1|6|1|7

Playoffs
Alfredsson = 124-51-49-100, 0.41 GPG, 0.81 PPG
Both Sedins = 207-48-101-149, 0.23 GPG, 0.72 PPG

Olympics
Alfredsson = 26-13-14-27, 0.50 GPG, 1.04 PPG
Both Sedins = 30-6-12-18, 0.20 GPG, 0.60 PPG

I understand why Alfie might not be a first a ballot winner-but that Sundin, who never even get his team into the Finals and never won any hardware for himself or his team - is a first ballot winner.

I think we know the answer.
