Every year there's a mock draft done by the team boards of HF -- here are the results of 2015, 2016, and 2017. Rules are easy: just pick the player you want your team to draft based on who is still available; "trade the pick" is not an option ;)

Dammit Vancouver, I wanted Hughes!

Out of the available players, it'd probably be Bouchard.

The last #8 pick the Hawks drafted was Mark Bell. Let's hope we do better.

Bouchard no damn doubt there...sucks that this could likely happen and we miss on Wall-E, and that brother of #1 overall Jack Hughes...
I think some permutation of that is what we see on draft day, though with Bouchard gone instead of Boqvist

I agree with Piteus, take your highest ranked guy regardless of position. I trust our scouting so I'm sure we'll do fine.

I would also consider trading back a bit if a team would give up a second rounder to move up. Take Kravtsov a little lower but there is no guarentees he would be there if we did move back as he seems to be the biggest wild card in the first round right now.

Bouchard would give us skating and size (skating more important) at every pairing going forward.

If could Stan could then trade up this draft could be ridiculous.

I am excited for this draft plus what the Hawks have done recently in the draft. You add HJ, Bouchard, and Mitchell to Keith, Murphy, and Forsling and we could be looking at a top 5 defensive unit in the NHL.

With the second 1st rounder I hope there is a forward who drops that we can take advantage of.

The guys I would want are gone, I'll take a flier on Veleno in this scenario.

How fast/slow is Bouchard? I haven’t seen him play and have read conflicting views.

He moves well, he just doesn't have elite speed like Hughes or Boqvist. I don't think it will be a hindrance. The fact that we have so many speedy, small defenseman is exaggerating Bouchard's deficiencies.

Beat me to it. He moves fine, his speed and mobility aren't a hindrance they just appear that way because he's not a burner like some of the others he's being compared to in the Top 10.

also add to the fact the kid plays over 30 minutes a game, hard to have bursts of speed when you have to consume energy all game long...and yes I do believe that is a factor with him as anyone who has ever played those types of minutes are not flying up and down the ice all game. kid has tested fine individually, was 2nd best backward skater at the CHL Top prospects event in January - it is a false narrative overblown by a few who simply have hate on the kid...reign him in to 22 minutes a night and see the massive difference in his skating which is more than fine currently. I think he will be a star, an OEL type player for years.
