lowetide has simon boisvert on the radio. a scout. prospect insider. apparently he thinks evan is a second pairing d man in the nhl. says he'd not be a #1 d man for any kind of championship team.

And what is this guy's claim to fame? Another Button or has he showed that he knows wtf he's talking about? Opinions are like ***holes after all. The reality is that he's 19 years old and that no one knows how high or low his upside is because of unknown variables such as work ethic, hockey IQ, potential injuries and their effect on his career and his physical upside. Wasn't Schultz a #1 d-man the last time that Pitt won or did Letang return by then?

Yeah, I have a hard time taking these "professionals" seriously. Obviously the chances of turning into a number 1 dman aren't great for any drafted dman, but to put a limit on any drafted prospect who's having a season like Bouchard is seems silly and that he's just piling on after a weak tournament by Canada, and a not great tournament by Bouchard.

It's easy to predict any top 10 pick to be average and come out looking smart.

Wasn't he struggling quite a bit earlier? I take it he's picked up his game?

I was being sarcastic. No idea if he's turned his season around or not. My point was basically that these guys all make their lists and unless they have a great track record I take what they say with a giant grain of salt.

He was a part time scout in the QMJHL for three years. Here is an article about his background.

From outsider to QMJHL scout

Note that he suggested that Duchene would be better than Tavares or Hedman and that he would have picked Skinner over Hall or Seguin. It seems that we may all be able to still sleep at night after all.

You think it would actually be difficult to become a part-time scout in Canadian Major Junior Hockey?

Must pay like ten bucks an hour.

Doesn't sound out of place to me really. Bouchard could very well be a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd pairing guy at this stage. Hell, he could end up washing out in the NHL completely. Tough to say. From what I've seen so far, he looks like a guy who will at least make the show based on his offensive prowess, and end up a PP-specialist in all likelihood. I certainly don't see anything that screams "top-pairing dman" either to be honest.

ya i'm not sure his claim to fame. he's supposedly a qmhl scout and a prospect expert. i haven't seen enough of bouchard to have any real opinion on him. i guess we just should bank on evan being a sure fire 1st pairing dman. there's been a lot of those drafted higher than him that have turned out to be complete busts. not saying evan will but we should temper expectations. especially with htis team's drafting and developing record. i had a feeling pooly would be a yak or pujarvi 2.0. hope i'm wrong.

Sports Journalists/Analysts are the equivalent to Entertainment Tonight "Reporters". Someone to get a conversation going for the audiences enjoyment. Groups of professional scouts and managers have a difficult time predicting the future play of teenagers yet a solo media personality knows the answers? Big grain of salt to any sports talking head on pretty much every topic. I get more out of the opinions on this board as at least most posters are shooting the shit for the love of the game vs paid to entertain.

i haven't paid enough attention to bouchard to really have an opinion but as of now i tend to agree... nothing screams top pairing to me either. he did kind of seem to have decent enough composure and self confidence which is huge for developing players. who knows... like i said... didn't watch him closely at all in his time up here.... didn't watch world jrs at all.

That idiot from 630 back in the day, Dan Tencer, sure brags about his position as a scout for the Saskatoon Blades a hell of a lot.

I'd suggest watching yourself and forming your own opinion. He has a ton of poise and a good offensive arsenal and size. He may well end up a 2nd pairing guy, but he could also be a top pairing guy, it's too damn early to say. Eventually he's our point man for the top PP unit.

It’s embarrassing that our 4th or 5th best D man (depending how you evaluate a couple of others) hasn’t even played a year of pro hockey. Can’t wait til next year.

I want him in the AHL for sure next year. Maybe even the year after that.

Let's develop this one properly, we really have a potential star #1d here. It's up to us to develop him properly as well.

Rushing prospects is what got us into this, give him more than enough time to marinate. I'm thinking all of next year in the AHL, then a call up around christmas of the 2020-21 season.
