Was scared for a minute Martinez might actually win AL MVP. Great season but he wasn't better (all around) than the 3 nominees. Betts should win.

If deGrom doesn't win NL Cy then just do away with the award. (BUT PITCHER WINZZ!!!)

Wonder if Scherzer will win again. Will the voters value team or individual contribution? DeGrom was on a terrible team but had an outstanding season. Would not be surprised if he won it.

Trout once again gets an undeserving MVP nominee over JD because of the voters/writers obsession with Trout’s WAR

He did not pitch a whole lot and Andujar's offensive numbers were better.

But, yeah, you are right, these voted-on awards are always about narratives.

What's ironic is that team success doesn't always to correlate to awards.

Although ROY is a little different since there have been plenty of Calder winners that did not make the playoffs.

Kjell Dahlin outscored Wendel Clark and Gary Suter in '86 and had more team success, but finished 3rd in Calder voting.

The amount of innings ohtani pitched at an elite level, plus better at the plate, plus Andujar playing a horrible third base more than make up for the PA difference.

Really surprised how people don't see that. Actually no I am not.

What about team success? Andujar was a big reason why the Yankees won 100 games and even a healthy Ohtani doesn't get the Angels past Oakland in the WC standings

This is the single dumbest reason to use for voting on an individual award.

If you want to vote for players because their teammates were better then I don't know what to tell you because there isn't any logic to that.

You mean the guy who lead all of baseball in OBP and OPS is an undeserving MVP nominee?

If Ohtani had as many ABs as Andujar he would have outperformed him offensively. At the very least it would have been dead close. Plus he pitched fairly well. It’s the right choice.

It’s what voting writers do in hockey, McDavid didn’t get Hart Trophy because his teammates are general f***ups. Also lost his ROY because of injury, I’m glad baseball voters are smarter.

But as a Yankee fan I’m totally ok with Ohtani. Special player.
