I love how being compared to DLR is spoken of as if it is a bad thing. DLR is an NHL center. Very young.

To get that in the 2nd round is never a guarantee. Actually look at Lehkonen and DLR out of their 2nd round class and they are two of the better choices.

If Olofsson can be as good as DLR, if not better than it is a good pick. I don't understand the DLR hate I like his game. He plays a simple game but can skate well for a man his size and actually showed some offensive upside when given the opportunity with Galchenyuk last season.

From my number crunching, there is about just over a 20% chance ( based on 6 drafts between 2003-2008 ) that a player drafted as a C in the 2nd round becomes a top 6C ( typically a 2C ). So the odds are not good of any particular player being that guy. But TT needs to hit it every now and then.

Well with Poehling in 2017 and then Kotkaniemi in 2018 the habs finally have strentgh at the position. Along with other kids such as Olaffsson one can hope they all become top 6 centers and finally give Montreal abundance at the position.

thanks for these. Wow didn't know Olofsson was that high. Really hope he can put it together and challenge Poehling for that #2 spot

While the sample is really small due to only fairly exceptional prospects playing pro in their draft year, from a ''life table'' point of view it looks really good. Most of the information seems to be contained in the fact that the prospect is in the league in the first place. I thought of finding the lowest measure of some quantity such as points, or PPG, or goals such that at least half of the prospects who exceeded it went on to make the NHL. For the Allsvenskan and points, that's in the single digits. If you were there and did anything you're an NHL prospect lol. And Jacob, though frustrating at times, did very well.

Notice the quality of players from recent, post-lockout years around Olofsson. Its an impressive list.

yeah they're all pretty much NHLers. I like his high goal totals too. The knocks on him kind of scare me a bit but he's in real good company stat wise.

I think we could have a much worse gamble at 56. He's a first round "talent" if that makes any sense. My first impressions of him (he had some good games) were that he's a guy you typically get 10-20 in the draft. He's very skilled. At the same time, he was a significant reason why Sweden didn't go far at the U18s. They needed more offense down the middle, but he kept to his safe zone a la Plekanec and should have brought much more offense for someone who produced as well in a pro league.

yeah if we took him with our 2nd 2nd rounder I'd still likely be happy. Good to hear.

I liked what I saw at camp. Hope he can have a good showing at the WJCs.

Just watched 3 games of Olofsson from Allsvenskan, he needs to work on getting a little quicker and a higher compete level, like McShane he seems to coast a good bit and doesn't appear to skate full out often. That said you can see he's got some hands, good frame and I like the lower body strength when you consider he's playing against much older, more physically matured players.

They had him on the point on the PP in one game, but you can see at least from those 3 games he's a key player for them as he plays in all situations and they had him out in the last seconds with the goalie pulled. Should be very interesting to see what he does next year in the SHL. His contract with Timra ends after this up coming season, hope we don't pull a DLR with him and put him in the AHL and then call him up when he's starting to do well. :D:popcorn:

I was thinking about this as well. I think Poehling has a step on Olofsson but I can see these two battling each other for the 2C or 3C role in a few seasons. Of course we need to see how they develop from now till age 20+

I just found out the format of the Allsvenskan and SHL. Timra has been moved to the SHL league this year based on qualification and having a good season. Two bottom SHL teams with the top 4 teams in the Allsvenskan in a yearly tournament called the Kvalserien. Top 2 of the 6 teams quality for the SHL for the following season and Timra was one of them.

Olofsson was a big reason why they had a good season from what I am reading too. Will be interesting to see how he does and how his team does next year. They will be up against tougher competition all year.

Was Hallander used in the same role as him, or did Olofsson get the bigger minutes? Thanks for your posts in this thread

They occasionally played together but in general Olofsson had the bigger role.

As a separate matter I'll point out a difference between Pastrnak's stats and Olofsson's stats, beyond the obviously higher PPG for David. David was also the leading scorer of his team. Jacob was the 5th scorer of his team.

the funny thing about people that were comparing him to DLR, they both had this happen to them, played in the Allsvenskan at 17 and then their teams got promoted to the SHL the following season. I saw a good bit of DLR in his first and only year in the SHL so hopefully I will get to do the same with Olofsson. DLR and his team both did pretty well considering they were playing in the 2nd league the previous season, I know all the Swedish fans I talked to over the summer that year all thought it was going to be ugly for Leksand, so hopefully Timra surprises.

Was Hallander used in the same role as him, or did Olofsson get the bigger minutes? Thanks for your posts in this thread

I didn't look for him. The vids are freaking great though, what a job the guy that puts them together does, it's a whole game condensed to just that prospects every shift. It's a huge time saver.

His coach also talked about developing his offensive game. I think that's maybe the first time I've ever heard a coach talk about such a thing.

If someone told Julien what Olofsson's coach said he would probably get the confused look dogs get when they tilt their heads and look at you funny. I'm sure he'd have a hard time with it, Develop offense? his coach had to of meant work harder on his defensive game.
