Yea. It, it seems crazy that this year Tampa is 'in' on every single decent player.

Keep in mind the the good thing about this however; if other teams think we are "in" on certain players, they are more likely to over pay to try to "beat" us out of signing a player we may not even be serious about. It's a great strategery, and Stevie Y was a grand master at that.

Can you give an example?

I dont think we are interested in Shattenkirk. Maybe in the offseason but not right now. If we have been scouting the Rangers, I think its for someone like Zucc or Hayes.

I really hope Shattenkirk won't come in Tampa.
A man that has refused to play for us in the past, does not deserve to play in the future.
And, also, we're not talking about a new Lindstrom...
So, I hope he'll stay in NY.

Thats true. He declined to come play here twice. Once in the nixed trade for Drouin and in free agency where he chose the Rangers over us. Rather go for someone who has had a desire to play here, like oh say someone random Erik Karlsson :thumbu:

Well, maybe putting it out there that we're interested in Shattenkirk is a message to Karlsson that we still want him :sarcasm:

I swear, tampering is so much easier in the NBA.

I'd like Shatty it's better for our salary cap then what we would need to pay karlsson and shatty only has two years of term left after this season. plus helps with not having to protect another defenseman because I think shatty would be up by that summer for the expansion draft.

What would we need Shattenkirk for? He's a PP specialist (with very poor point production this season) and our PP is already at 30%.
ya on a poor rangers team shatty's points would sky rocket if he played on the power play with kucherov, point, stamkos and hedman

Good points. I wouldnt be against looking into it this offseason or before the draft. Id still rather have Karlsson though.

of course i'd rather have karlsson but the cost for money will be way more then shatty. shatty is a 6.65 cap hit for two more years after this season. what would karlsson be ? 9.5 avv for a 7 year term ?

I understand that but if we can make Karlsson work I'm all for that first. If we need a RHD and Shattenkirk is available and Karlsson isn't happening then I'd be open to looking into it.

Their power play is still decent, 10th in the league. Not worth it.

also have to factor in we got a need for a RHD after the season so if there willing to take the whole callahan contract and give us shatty id do it of course we would also still have to move gourde or miller to another team to sign point.

I've been saying. Hes not that good.

He's awful, what makes anyone think he can be an effective depth player here? He's less than 0.5PPG, can't play in a bottom 9 role and not good enough to stick with a premier center in Giroux.

Apparently everyone thinks that the only way to beat Washington is to fight them. After game 5 last season it wasn't an issue, but apparently it is now.

I remember - Game 6, we're down 1-0 at the end of the second period. Kucherov takes a faceoff shot and it goes off of the crossbar. That shot is an inch lower, history is changed. As it stands, I'm glad Yzerman and JBB didn't do any knee-jerk moves to add like Reaves or any other big body. We didn't lose to Washington because we were getting outhit, we lost because we played like shit.

Agreed, look at Pittsburgh who's been giving them fits for a decade. You can outskill Washington, Tampa just didn't show up. Reaves was on Vegas who got killed in 5.

I feel Mark Stone - as a pure rental - would be a great addition. (Put me in the camp that thinks AP will be too expensive.) I keep ranting about depth scoring. This is the area where I truly believe we will make a move, if anything. The failure to put pucks in the net was our death knell in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Not defense. And our defense looks better than ever.

Stone is a pure goal scorer, nearly 60 points this season, 26 years old, 6’4. Fits the mold of what I envision. He’s got 2M left on his contract this year. OTT may not want to trade within division, though, and WPG is rumored to be in on him.

First, putting the cap and asset swap issues to the side, what do you guys think about the above?

Second, how do we make the cap and assets work? OTT won’t want to take on a contract cap dump as one piece of the deal.

Would love to have him but Ottawa might not trade him in the division. They wouldnt do it for Karlsson. Doubt they would change their minds on Stone.
