On the "former Sens prospect watch", Chris Driedger is having a decent year for the Springfield Thunderbirds in the AHL. He has a GAA of 2.52, pretty good in that league, and a winning record. I have always feared that he was going to come back in here at age 27, playing as an emergency call up for someone, and pitch a shutout on us. I think we gave up on him too soon TBH...

And still floating around

Byfield at 4C but Nick Paul at 1LW..... :help:

Is that all that you have to complain about? Paul would have several yrs of pro experience over Byfield when Byfield starts his NHL experience, I would hope that eventually Byfield surpasses most of the players on the team given his potential but it will take a few yrs I assume. I actually think that Paul would be the perfect 4th line centre but so far they have him playing mostly on the wing & for your information he happens to be playing on the top line in Belleville & doing quite well, so there's that.

Paul is 24 and pretty close to done developing as a player. He's an AHL 1st liner or a pretty solid NHL 4th liner, and I'm happy with that. Brown and Batherson are at the same level as him, but at 20 years old. They still have lots of developing to do, which is why we can project them as top 6 players.

I hope I'm wrong and Paul turns into an NHL superstar, but I just don't see it.

Also I think Byfield will be at 1C level immediately, like Matthews, Eichel, etc.. Just my opinion.

Hey Sens fans, I'm looking for your opinion on some players who made their debut this past season. Can you tell me what type of player they are and especially what their future NHL outlook is? Thanks a lot!

Rudolfs Balcers- Hard to tell but looks like he can be a good middle 6 player, 50 Point potential but hopefully he gets a little stronger and improves his IQ.
Vitaly Abramov- Only played one game, need to see how he does in an elevated role in Belleville next season.
Drake Batherson- Very good player in the making. Has definite top 6 potential and was by far the best player in Belleville this season.
Max Veronneau-Flashed some skill, hopefully, can become a Dzingel type player for us. I'd say 40-50 point potential. Not sure how he will fit on the roster next season, largely dependent on AHL promotions and UFA signings/re-signings.
Maxime Lajoie-Hardest read of all. Started off the year super hot but came crashing down before being sent down. I think he should start in the AHL next year and hopefully, earn a spot back in the line up based on merit and not just due to lack of personnel. Potential ranges anywhere from #4D PP Specialist to #6 OFD.
Joey Daccord- Played one game. Should be either starter in Belleville, if Hogberg serves as backup to the sens, or else not really sure what the sens will do with 3 prospect goalies.
Marcus Hogberg-Very solid year in Belleville. His role will largely depend on what they do with Anderson and Nilsson, imo Andy is a buyout candidate and Nilsson and Hogberg would be a good duo for a rebuilding team and allow the sens to asses what they have in Hogberg and have Gustavsson and Daccord duke it out for the starter role in Belleville.

To Expand:

Batherson: Floor: Marcus Johansson type, skilled player but who seems to lack something to put him over the top. Ceiling: Mark Stone, albeit not as good defensively. He has great puck skills, good vision and has shown some high end skill and just seems to get it done.

Rudolf Balcers: Floor: Present day Boedker, gets points but largely unnoticeable and below average in many areas. Ceiling: Prime Boedker, gets points uses speed and skill and is defensively responsible enough to be a net positive to the team.

Rudolfs Balcers - solid 2nd/3rd liner. 40 point player when he’s ready

Vitaly Abramov - who knows. Could be Oleg Petrov, could be Ryan Shannon.

Drake Batherson - top line RW. Plays big in big moments.

Max Verroneau - who knows.

Maxime Lajoie - good skater who has confidence. Top out as complimentary Dman who’s slaying gives hi. A long career.

Balcers- Middle six winger who is going to be a coaches favourite and have some special teams play. Should hover around 15-20 goals and 35-45 points most of his career. Two way player with quick hands and a great shot. Should make the team next season.

Abramov- He had flashes in Belleville, can be a threat coming down the right side but those flashes were too infrequent for me. He works hard to earn opportunities but he needs to improve his skating if he wants to make the next step. Unlikely to make the team next season.

Batherson- Top 6 winger. He is extremely effective on the PP and should be a productive player there. Smart playmaker but I would like to see him attack the middle of the ice a little more often. Also going to be a coaches favourite for his willingness to contribute on both sides of the puck. Should make the team next season.

Veronneau- Elite speed. Don't see a lot of offensive upside there but would like to see more of him before I feel confident about that assessment. I don't see him making the team next season but he will have an opportunity.

Lajoie- A Modern Two-Way Defensemen. Smart player and a smooth skater with top 4 potential. Not going to blow you away in any facet of the game but overall is solid at everything. I really like the player going back several seasons now. Not one bit surprised by his breakout at the start of the season. I think the grind of the season took its toll on him towards the end. Should be on the team next season but will have to battle for it.

Daccord- Goalies are tough. The little I saw from Daccord I liked but again goalies are tough and it was one game.

Hogberg- Has the opportunity to be an NHL backup next season. Not a fan of his style, a little to busy for a guy who (relatively) isn't all that athletic but the results were there this year. Relied upon heavily and delivered in the AHL. The guy started what 20+ consecutive games. I dont know if he missed a game from January on.

Balcers - small, soft, perimeter player with offensive skills, 2nd or 3rd liner or career AHLer.
Abramov - IMO career AHLer
Veronneau - see Balcers with better speed, less hockey IQ
Batherson - solid all around player with good offensive instincts, needs to be harder to play against defensively
Lajoie - good 2nd pairing left shot D, not spectacular at anything just all around good at most D things.
Daccord - should have a much better idea once he has played a yr of pro hockey, had a good NCAA yr
Hogberg - probably has done enough to earn the backup job in Ott for next season, how good or bad he will be remains to be seen in the NHL. Who knows with goalies?

I tend to agree with most of this. For Lajoie, he is rather slight of build, not physical, and might not become second pair level.

Balcers : High skill and speedy winger with a very good release. Reminds me of MacArthur a lot stylistically but less gritty. His floor is pretty high and so is his ceiling imo. He's shown a lot of promising things in his career and especially this year in both the AHL and NHL. He's one of the best danglers on the team already and has great IQ on the ice. If all goes well I think he can be a 55-60 point player but I'm pretty high on him compared to others. If not he safely projects as a 40 point player imo, so an average 2nd liner.

Abramov : Diminutive winger with high skill and a really heavy shot. He's not as fast as you'd expect from someone who's 5'9 but he's not slow either. Has good IQ on the ice and is a hard worker willing to go in the corners and in front of the net despite his size. A lot of people think he'll be a career AHLer if he doesn't pan out as a top-9 forward, but I disagree. I think he can carve out a role on a 3rd or 4th line because of the things he's willing to do on the ice. He'll either be a 2nd liner or a bottom line (3rd or 4th) tweener who is reliable and can provide some offence, imo.

Batherson : Uber skilled and crazy smart winger with a great accurate shot and sick passing skills. He was PPG+ in his first AHL season and didn't look out of place in the NHL (put up a near 0.5 PPG pace). He's been getting exponentially better every year for about 3 years now. If he was a better skater he'd be a lock to be one of the best wingers in the league for a long time, but he can still get there despite that deficiency. Skating can always be improved and we should look no further than Mark Stone as a comparable for Batherson imo. Similar players but Stone is probably a bit smarter and better with his stick whereas Drake is probably a bit more dynamic. He safely projects as a 1st liner imo, he just has to be developed correctly and not rushed in the NHL. He's turning 21 in just a few days so a good summer of training and another half season in the AHL can do him wonders.

Veronneau : Hard to project him because he didn't play that many minutes in Ottawa and he kinda disappeared after his first few games. Looks like he's a very good skater despite his size and has good hands, passing and a pretty good shot too (one of his goals was a snipe from a hard angle). Looks like a smart player on the ice. I think he can be an NHLer but would have to see more of him to know what exactly. If he ends up as an NHLer, maybe I can see him as a 2nd/3rd line tweener guy. Maybe a less gritty Coyle or something... might also end up a career AHLer but he showed some flashes in his 12 games so we'll see.

Lajoie : Smooth skating high IQ D with a long reach and good hands. You can say Vlasic-lite in terms of style. He was playing like a top-4 D for about his first 20 games this year before he tailed off. We later learned that he was injured towards the end of his stint in Ottawa. I think he safely projects to be a top 4 D. He's the new age type of dman who isn't extremely physical but is good on both sides of the ice, poised, has good vision + anticipation and is pretty calm under pressure, especially considering his age. Also had very good showings on the PP. Can end up being an all-situations type D that's very useful for any team.

Daccord + Hogberg : I don't give opinions on goalies sorry, haha.
