Unless the arena wasn't available, I don't see any reason whatsoever why the NHL couldn't have started game 1 on Saturday evening or even Sunday afternoon.

Monday is a Memorial Day in the States, which is probably why they decided to go with it instead of the weekend.

The NHL is run by a bunch of f***ing amateurs who've lucked into operating what's supposed to be a fun sport. f*** their old ownership and management structure. Also f*** the Bruins.
