And a scrap breaks out between Jonah Gadjovich and Tony Turgeon; this is Turgeon's second fighting major tonight. Tuirgeon leaves thre game post fight.

Comets hung on for a 4-3 win. Springfield carried more of the play and out shot Utica but came out in their usual tough but dumb style and quickly gave up three pp goals. The hill proved too steep.

Tonight we saw what would happen if Lind kept stickling his nose into scrums. He got popped in the nose hard by Bobby Farnham for his trouble. And tonight was also the night Jonah Gadjovich decided enough was enough and dropped the gloves with a fairly tough Tony Turgeon and held his own in the fight. This will be a confidence booster for Gadjovich who is looking more comfortable with each passing game.

The defense played pretty well as a unit tonight with everyone handling their business pretty effectively. Forward standouts included the usual suspects; Boucher, Kero, Gaunce and MacEwen.

Gritty and critical win. Going to be tight going down to the wire.

Liked

Gaunce - helping the team in all areas. Critical faceoff wins, good puck movement in the o-zone and effective defensively.

Kero - not his strongest game but still important to the win

Schenn - sometimes glacial in movement but very smart using his positioning and use of angles moving the puck. Has NHL anticipation and makes excellent passes coming out of his zone

Lind - is maybe the most improved player at the moment. Skating is becoming an asset rather than the liability it was and he is very good in delivering passes. Right now looks the better prospect than Dalhen.

MacEwen - had some good rushes and made some good plays around the net that others should have converted. Did very well in his fight with goon Turgeon after stepping in when Trugeon nailed Gadjovich. In later fight with Trugeon, Gadjovich hung in but looked over-matched.

Did not like

Bancks - terrible with the puck and very little in the play. There have been times when Bancks has been very good defensively but don't think the last couple of games he has even been good here either.

Others

Chatfield - better in this one. Kind of junk yard dog approach to the game. Not much finesse but brings energy and is scrappy. Can't see him ever providing any type of offense.

Woods - played on the so-called first line and was decent. However, too helter skelter to produce much offense.

Leighton - actually stopped a lot of shots but did not look that good doing it. Down on most shots and sometimes got staggering around his crease like a beer leaguer. Got very lucky at times. Don't see how you can put much long term reliance in this player.

Carter Bancks should be sitting. Terrible. Even his defensive game is awful now. Don't care if he's Captain or his 2 year contract.

Here is a nice article about the trade, from Toronto’s perspective.

Toronto Marlies trade Stefan Leblanc for Tanner MacMaster

The article listed
Carcone
Subban
Sestito
MacMaster
as former Comets on the Marlies.

Later he brings up Griffen Molino who could have done the job he figures MacMaster will do. He neglected to include Molino as one of the ex Comets. So that's 5.

He also failed to mention Frank Corrado who makes 6.

Sam Gagner should also get listed since he should have been in Utica in the first place, not Toronto. 7

Benning is doing a pretty good job stocking two AHL farm teams, but can't seem to find a goalie for his own farm.

It's been 32 days since McKenna was claimed. Okay, Ghost Johnson. Looks like the urgency you stated was needed to get a quality AHL/NHL keeper sooner than later was just another smoke screen like you've sent up time after time since you were named the GM here last season.

The Brisebois having a great season all last year, echoed by Benning all last season has been passed on to Chatfield who Benning said needs to get a look in Vancouver this season due to his strong play. Strong play in 14 GP before the last 2 making 16 GP on the season? IF Chatfield makes it in the NHL, it will be a huge, huge story in the hockey world.

It appears Johnson was hired as a PR man to make Vancouver fans think there is all kinds of help in Utica chomping at the bit to stake a claim on the Canucks in the near future.

That is the bill we were fed before the season, but at the moment the Comets are being carried by Kero, Gaunce, Boucher, MacEwen, Sifers, Blujus, and now add Schenn to that list.

MeEneny on 1 and 1/2 legs is the best of the young defenders. Dahlen would be a promising prospect if Vancouver could only play him on the Power Play. 5 on 5 he is invisible. Jasek, Gadjovich and Lind? Talk to me half way through next year.

The Canucks are carrying three currently, seems there was no one under contract in Utica for them to call up. Had to reach into the juniors ;)
