MacEwen hit hard in the face in front after a shot on net. Comets to the PP

PP is good, but remember the Comets are the #1 team in the AHL in SHGA.

They have to be dilligent.

MacEwen picks up an elbowing penalty. Really STUPID!!!.

Jasek off the face off hit clean for a breakaway and tripped and fell over the blue line.

Now Rochester a penalty. and the Comets get a 48 second 4on3, then 4on4, and then a short 5on4.

Comets continue to lose the draws on their PP and have to go back into their own and and start over.

Dahlen in a good spot at the bottom of the circle and his shot deflects off an Amerk and out.

Comets gain possession after a long board battle and Kero has ice, but just shoots it down the ice for icing.

Olaffsson got a great pass cutting across the blueline in mid ice and his shot form the lower circle was deflected and Bachman had to come up off his knees and grab the high puck.

Amerks call timeout. 2:26 to go.

Wilcox gone.

Bachman made a save he didn't see. Amerks all over the puck.

Bancks held the puck on the side boards seemingly forever and the zebra blows the whistle. 1:19

Final score Utica Comets 5 - Rochester Americans 4. Bet the Amerks get 2 of the 3 stars. LOL

I'm wrong. Comets got 2 of them. I'll get to that later here in the recap.

SOG:
Comets - 10 7 6 = 23
Amerks - 20 15 12 = 47

PP:
Comets - 2/5
Amerks - 1/6

Gaunce (2) from Kero (10) and Jasek (3)
MacEwen (8) from Dahlen (10) and Graham (2)
Carcone (5) from Graham (3) and Jasek (4)
Carcone (6) from Darcy (4)
Darcy (3) unassisted

Bachman - 43/47

3 Stars:
1 - Michael Carcone (Utica Comets) 2G
2 - CJ Smith (Rochester Americans) 3A
3 - Cam Darcy (Utica Comets) 1G/1A

Utica goes back at it tomorrow night vs Bellville Senators at 7p.m. EST.

A 4:00 p.m. ceremony will take place outside in the cold as the original Clinto Comets will be commemorated with the unveiling of a permanent full sized bronze statue of the foursome who aremost responsible for growing the grassroots of hockey in the Mohawk Valley - Jack Kane, Dave (Davie) Armstrong, Borden (Bordie) Smith, and Pierre (Peter) Prevost. The monument also features a plaque dedicated to a 5th player, Ian Anderson, who passed away in November/2013, to complete the five pillars of the original Comets who remained in the area after their playing days were over and have served as ambassadors of the area's Comet Culture.

Their 1967-68 team finished the regular season with a 57-5-10 record. That record is still the best single season record in professional hockey. They went on to win the 1968 Eastern League playoffs as well.

Post game autograph session to follow. A 3rd straight victory for the home side would be the icing on the cake of a big night.

Turned out feeling thankful for watching this one on a delay. The earsplitting awful music played from inside the Rochester arena from the split second play stopped to play getting back to action on every single break from the opening puck drop to the final buzzer was incredibly irritating. I wonder if those big noise buffer ear muffs you see kids wearing at games are available in adult sizes, I would have to wear them in that building, wound up up fast forwarding throw every single stoppage. Made good time but didn't see many face offs ;)

Carcone seems to slowly working his way towards becoming an impact player for the Comets. Always had blazing speed, but seems to be harnessing it better this year. Becoming a decent pk'er as well. Still only 22 and now 12 points in 16 games.

What the's story on Carcone?....any NHL potential, or an AHL lifer?

Great speed and decent hands but questionable hockey IQ. A puck hog that doesn't consistently use his teammates.

As an example in the final three minutes of the home game last week Carcone skates the length of the ice tries to skates through two defenders and a forward collapsing on him as he crossed the blue line. Coughs up the puck and it gets cleared the length of the ice where rinse and repeat he does the exact same thing with the exact same results a second time. Never once looked to dish the puck to a teammate. Cull chewed his ass off at the bench like I've never seen him do before and stapled his ass there for the rest of regulation.

The Comets tied it with less than two minutes left and Carcone clinched it with a SO goal so you have to take the good with the bad. But this one man team attitude won't cut it in the NHL. If he can consistently learn to use his line mates then maybe he will get a look. The past couple games he has passed the puck better and more often. Now he has to keep doing it.

Another win for Demko. After the concussion scare this is a huge relief. The Canucks desperately need Demko to show that he could be the Canucks future #1 goalie. If that happens the Canucks would be in much better shape. Dipietro can hopefully come in and be as good as Demko has been for the Comets.
