No tank points going on last night but with a Detroit loser point the tracker changes a bit. Detroit moves from 3rd to 5th. Ari and Van get added back. Although not currently in tracker the COL (and CHI) win helps keep them away.

Team - Pts - Games - ROW

8. ARI - 59 - 60 - 24
7. VAN - 59 - 60 - 23

6. ANA - 57 - 60 - 21
5. DET - 55 - 61 - 21
4. EDM - 54 - 59 - 21
3. NJD - 54 - 60 - 22
2. LAK - 52 - 59 - 21
1. OTT - 49- 59 - 22

Tonight's games - 10 points available.

OTT vs NJD
LAK
vs NSH
NYI vs EDM
ARI vs VAN

With the 2 versus games were guaranteed 4 points minimum. So that’s cool. At least one of van or ari will get out of range. Edm or jersey could jump past Detroit.

I can't believe Edmonton has drafted RNH + McDavid 1st overall and Draisaitl 3rd overall and in the years they've been building around those guys can't put together a more competent team than the Red Wings right now

There is no excuse

BONUS POST.

Tracker started Jan 21st. Since then, 14 teams have been in the tracker at some point. Here are their records since starting, ranked by winning percentage

STL - 11 - 1 - 0 (.917)
CHI - 9 - 2 - 0 (.818)
PHI - 9 - 2 - 1 (.792)
FLA - 7 - 4 - 0 (.636)
DET - 5 - 4 - 2 (.545)
NYR - 5 - 5 - 1 (.500)
LAK - 4 - 4 - 2 (.500)
NJD - 5 - 6 - 1 (.458)
ARI - 5 - 6 - 1 (.458)
COL - 3 - 6 - 3 (.375)
VAN - 3 - 6 - 1 (.350)
OTT - 3 - 7 - 0 (.300)
ANA - 3 - 7 - 0 (.300)
EDM - 1 - 6 - 3 (.250)

As someone that wants a crack at a high pick while wanting the team to stay somewhat competitive and to keep a battling mentality it's hard to not like how things have went. This is a lack of talent, not a team that's giving up. Hopefully the trade deadline helps with the final standings but hard to complain about the team still playing hard.

That's my best case scenario, really. Glad to see a team that doesn't give up.

Historic incompetence. It's been a good old boys' club for years, with no accountability for a long time.

That's why I hate it when Edmonton is used to argue against tanking. If you have blithering idiots making the picks, then it doesn't matter if you draft top 5 or bottom 5... You'll screw it up more than the average team does.

Mixed results on the night.

On the positive...
Both Edm and NJD jump over Detroit with wins.
Both Ari and Van get at least a point in their vs game and both leave the tracker.

On the negative...
The 2 bottom teams in the league, Ott and LAK, both lose.
And a couple teams (Fla, NYR) just sitting above the 4 point window, lose their games to continue to hang around.

7/10

Team - Pts - Games - ROW

6. ANA - 57 - 60 - 21
5. EDM - 56 - 60 - 22
4. NJD - 56 - 61 - 23
3. DET - 55 - 61 - 21
2. LAK - 52 - 60 - 21
1. OTT - 49- 60 - 22

Tonight's games - 4 points available.

DET vs MIN

OTT vs CBJ
ANA vs CAL

QUESTION -> Should I expand the tracker window to more than 4 points to capture more teams? window of 6 points?

If so, the current tracker would look like this...

Team - Pts - Games - ROW

12. COL - 61 - 60 - 25
11. ARI - 61 - 61 - 25
10. CHI - 61 - 61 - 25
9. FLA - 60 - 59 - 23
8. NYR - 60 - 60 - 20
7. VAN - 60 - 61 - 23
6. ANA - 57 - 60 - 21
5. EDM - 56 - 60 - 22
4. NJD - 56 - 61 - 23
3. DET - 55 - 61 - 21
2. LAK - 52 - 60 - 21
1. OTT - 49- 60 - 22

And we'd be tracking the COL vs CHI game as well as the other two. So there would be 7 points avail.

Hmm.

Youre the one doing it so completely your call, I do like the 6 point window thoug for now and maybe once end of the season gets closer you could go back down to 4? Your call!

What does the 118/182 mean?

Well each night there is a certain amount of “tank points” available. The whole exercise is really about how other teams that are within 4 (6 recently) points of Detroit are doing.

Instead of directly cheering for Detroit to lose we can hope other teams near Detroit are winning and helping Detroit to remain near a good pick ranking.

Anyway, the 118/182 is a running tally of each nights results since the tracker started.

The 62% is just meant as a big picture indicator.

As of now, the teams that have been tracked have gotten 62% of all the points available. Which, seems like a fantastic result when talking about the bottom third of the league.

Take tonight for an extreme example. There are 3 versus games and 1 normal game. There’s 11 tank points available. We are guaranteed a minimum of 6 points so that helps with the overall results but still 62% overall is pretty sweet.

OTT

ARI vs WPG - win
CHI vs DAL - loss

2/6 points

120 / 199 = 60%

ARI leaves the tracker. Chicago hangs around and Ottawa just f*cking sucks.

Team - Pts - Games - ROW

24. CHI - 61 - 63 - 25
25. VAN - 60 - 62 - 23
26. EDM - 58 - 61 - 23
27. ANA - 57 - 62 - 21

Games tomorrow...
NJD vs MTL

9 points out there. I think we're due for a good result. The last 3 nights have been rotten.
